Operation 300: Forging The Heart Of A Warrior

Posted by Andrea Ryan on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, 10:43 AM

Many of you may remember the inspiring and tragic story of Navy SEAL, Aaron Vaughn. Aaron was killed last year in Afghanistan, along with 16 of his fellow elite Navy SEALs in the deadliest single loss for U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Described by his grandmother as a tough warrior and a gentle man, Aaron, who had just celebrated his 30th birthday, left behind a wife and two young children.

Last August, Jim interviewed Aaron’s mother, Karen, regarding the despicably insensitive Obama campaign ad, “One Chance”. The strength displayed by this heartbroken mother is palpable as she speaks of the pain over losing a child. But, where our president sees opportunity to exploit, a heartbroken family sees opportunity to do good. Inspired by Aaron’s tragedy, Billy and Karen Vaughn, along with their daughter, Tara Baldwin, have launched a new foundation, called “Operation 300”. Named after 300 brave Spartans who almost successfully stood against an impossible onslaught of one million Persians in the Battle of Thermopylae. Fiercely united in courage, conviction, skill, and discipline, not to mention tactical proficiency, these formidable warriors left their indelible mark in history. They are a striking example of how a mighty few can accomplish great things… when one has the heart of a warrior.

From Operation 300,
Operation 300 is a non-profit foundation designed to create a week-long experience for boys who have lost their fathers as a result of service to our country. The camp will provide an opportunity to participate in activities that embody the spirit of adventure that characterized the lives of their absent fathers while fostering a culture of courage, strength, freedom, endurance, honor and godly morality embodied by fearless patriots throughout the history of our American Republic.
The Operation 300 foundation is a remarkable commitment of giving the most valuable gift back to our fallen soldiers: helping fill the void in their children’s lives from the pivotal loss of a father. Please take a moment to look at the website, spread the word, and consider how you may help the Vaughn family’s important effort.
