Because of Agent Orange exposer, a cancer causing agent, Vietnam Vets have an unusually high rate of prostate cancer. It is much more agressive and happens at a younger age. It is recommended by leading prostate cancer experts that vietnam vets get checked every 6 months because of this. If you are a vietnam vet and your father had prostate cancer it is IMPARITIVE that you get tested every 6 months. Just from this pole, look at the rate of prostate cancer in the responses. Way way above the norm. I have NOT got prostate cancer, YET, but my brother and father both do/did. It killed my father. That being said, it is imparitive I get checked twice a year as I believe I will also get it and want it detected early. It's a horrible way to die. It is not me that states VV's need the twice a year, it is EXPERTS on the subject. Hope this answers your question. I belive the twice a year has saved both Dan, (Pighumper), James, and Steve.

Neil, I forgot....there are usually NO SYMPTOMS....NONE. If you have symptoms, it's probably too late.

Default Pack,...

Guess that Old Andy said it best with his wise: "Stay Healthy" sign-off,...and also stay lucky.

Plus, do my: "Quick Twenty" (granted not as quick as before) and such as often as possible,
and also try best to eat properly and keep booze consumption reasonably nominal,...
which is actually the hardest part of my daily regimen. Long ago Germany spoiled me.

Nowadays am more so a Red Wino, then as previously a High Carb Professional Beero.

58, stateside vet, get checked twice a year; I've got a colonoscopy coming up in a couple of weeks; all the men on my father's side had colon cancer so I'm very wary of it, though I'm fine (I hope and think!)

the red wine is good for you....keep that up. Also, and this is for everyone, Lycopene's, which you can get in vitamins, (I use GNC 50+ which has this), and Saw Palmetto are good for the prostate. The GNC multivamins for us old guys has both. My "adopted", not really, little brother is one of the worlds experts on Prostate Cancer. He is very surprised I don't have it yet. He believes that the vitamins, I also take extra Complex Omega 3's, may be doing the trick...but we'll see. You also get Lycopene's from COOKED mata's. Raw doesn't work because it takes the heat to release them. So....say yes to a good Italian or Creole sauce. I just made up some great Shrimp Creole Sunday night. Used the best Mata's on earth, good ol' fresh from St. Helena's Island. The "Scrimps" were fresh caught also from the waters off St. Helena's. I love the Lowcountry! Just some tips for all of y'all.

Doc....METAMUCIL EVERY DAY! My last colonoscapy was perfect! My friend the cancer expert HIGHLY RECOMMENDS THAT!

I have seen stats for "aggressive" prostate cancer that range from 10 % to 25 % of all diagnosed. My high school friend had it and they gave him 4 months to live, but he lived for 3 years...he fought it and was very religious, but endured a lot of pain and suffering. This is the one to watch for, and why a 6 month check up is necessary.
