Looks like all that needs to be said about Saddam?s levering the Arab States and the UN has been said. Sure he?s a survivor and a chess player but the brand of chess he plays is called Saddam wins, regardless. In terms of Saddam the man, he?s an interesting piece of work. His career as a Arab Nationalist began as a hit man and he went on to become the most preeminent and accomplished hit man for the Baath Nationalist party. Along the way he decided that he needed some academic credibility so with his reputation well established as a high volume, efficient, hit man he decided to become a Lawyer. According to the account, he set an unbroken world record for attaining his law degree and accreditation- less than an hour. Easy deal, he told the University of Baghdad he was going to challenge the exam and naturally they complied with his wishes. He showed up, looked at the exam a bit, then pulled his pistol and announced he passed with the highest marks. I suppose this could be called a Magnum Cum Laude graduation.
It was a similar deal with his ascendancy to the leadership of the Baath Party. At a Party get together, he pulled about 200+ attendees aside, passed out assault rifles to a bunch of the other attendees and cut the 200+ down on the spot. No argument about who was in charge or the Party platform from that point on, nope, not so much as a word or untoward gesture and that is Saddam?s form of chess I suppose. Ya got to give it to the guy, he?s driven and absolutely nothing gets in his way, nothing. Reportedly his son Oudey (sp?) got too big for his britches and was pushing his Pa?s power infrastructure. So Saddam sent out a hit man and had his son cut down. The hit failed and Oudey ended up paralyzed. I?d bet a bunch the assigned hit man took a long, slow and painful journey into the dark-darkness. And the beat goes on, and on and on. Scamp |

He's a madman
and needs to be squashed like the roach, Palmetto Bug down here", he is. We can have all the discussions in the world, but it's coming down for sure.
James has a great point. Why are we in the U.N., and when the hell we getting out. It is totally useless, to say the least. I think they need to heat up the UN building so it bends over looking like a limp weenie. We just received a decontamination, N.B.C., unit here at the Naval Hospital. They are going to all the hospitals and FMF. Now what do ya'll think that's for? Once more into the breech! Airborne! Packo

I Think
I think the US should get out of the UN and develop a new organization. Call it the YOU-IN . Made up of nations who will take care of the business of running the world. If a dirty deed needs do-in they will do it for the good of the world.
If someone need to be killed, go kill him. Im not much for talking people to death. a cruse bullett will work. Oh yea,,,,, I also think our guys (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines) are so good that it will be as last time , Just a walk in the park. Course we could just make it Lake Irag. Ron |

Magnum Cum Laude! Ha-ha LOL..I couldn`t agree more about getting us out of the United(Socialist)Nations. It`s become a damn farce.Saddam must go! A member of his own cabinet had the balls to stand up and disagree with him.Saddam calmly unholstered his pistol and shot him in the head. What a guy!

Do away with the United Nations? Oh now, surely not. The least discerning of us knows the absolute need for a galactic headquarters for inconsequential busy work, empty words, equally empty heads and weepy, pittery-pat little micro-miniature hearts. Why without all that the UN site could become a park for kiddos and lord only knows the world would go to hell in a hand basket if kids had a nice place to play and have a bit of fun. Oh my, what a fate, bummer. It?s bumper sticker time I?m thinking. How about ?Save Global Warming and the UN?. That works.

Panama?
In Iraq at least we won't have military personnel and dependents warning them exactly when we are going to attack.

This is what the Bush people need to make public. I can understand the need for secrecy to safeguard sources but if they realy want to get the nation on board they'll put this info out, at least generally. I think there's a real need for a national redefinition of our nations intent here--this will go against all of our " no first strike" rhetoric--they really need to show that Saddam is explicily an immediate threat. The real problem is in the aftermath. finding saddam will only be Problem A.1. This is a real case when you solve the problem only to create more problems Here's the scenario: US troops occupy the country--will saddam use gas or nukes on his own people to get our troops?? Hitler woulda!! Also, theyre gonna have to start democracy in Square One in a country that at its BEST is notoriously corrupt and has NEVER known democracy--good luck there too, cause its also against their religion. We never solved this exact same problem in VN either, it only got worse, a real expensive farce. if we go to war there, I'd like to see the US take over their oil wells for a generation or 2 to pay for the suicide bombers we'll be dodging. What we REALLY need is tighter immigration controls but you won't see this happening much under ANY president James "I call it the Madman Theory, Bob" Richard M Nixon |

James,
Sadam is no fool. He knows if we come in now he's history. He also has a knack for delay tactics. He's playing the game with the tools the system gives him. He's no dummy! He's got weapons (mass destruction I don't know) all sorts enough to do plenty of damage if he gets the chance. I don't trust this guy one little bit. He's had years to hide his shit. It's in Mosque, people's basements, hotels and just about anything else that will make the inspectors jobs that much more difficult. This guy is knows we'd take him out for sure so now he's leaning on the UN saying he's willing to have inspectors - He's just buying more time. It's a scam and he will delay any US action cause he knows this time he'd be toast. Boats

Aftermath
Democracy, schmockracy: the knee-jerk reaction that we need to install a democracy in the soon-to-be-conquered Iraq begs the question: why? Although a varieation of this form of government works for us, it was generally a failure in RVN, and one of the bonehead ideas LBJ tried to foist off on a land of peasants where democracy was as foreign as UFO's.
What further proof, supporting documents, and just good argument is needed to fupport our proposed military actions in Iraq? Make it easy on yourself: just go back and re-read all the UN resolutions that Iraq has failed to comply with, and there is sufficient justification to act. And when we act, it will not be a first-strike scenario; we are simply doing a delayed-action counter attack. Kindly refer back to your history books: after Pearl Harbor, the next strike agains Japan was months away, and was not considered a first-strike deal. With the oil resources available. this may be one of the first, if not the only instance of a pay-as-you-go war. I've written eleswhere of the possible scenario of our controlling the oil fields and associated infrastructure, underselling the stinkin Saudis on the world oil market, and using the proceeds to fund our war efforts with the balance paying for the rebuilding efforts there. BTW: included in our war efforts will be payments for concurrent reciept accounts due!!
