Default Wane Grey

Started my second tour in Nam C-1/22 inf 4th ID in Mrach 1969, got there for the last week of opeation Wayne Grey in the Peli Trap Valley, better known by Special Forces as the Valley of Tears, sure found out why it was called that by them. US KIA 110, in just the week I was there. The North Vietnamese had a big base camp in that area, and was found by a recond patrol from the 1/22, after getting our butts shot up, the 3/8 inf came in and finished the job for us.

Default Robert,

in early DEC66 I did a CA into the Plei Trap Valley. I believe it was 20-25 miles west of Kontum. This was the beginning of Operation Pickett. They moved the entire 1st Bde. [the only brigade at that time] of the 101st from Tuy Hoa over on the coast. Many of us also CA'd into the nearby Dak Akoi Valley. This was the first time in the war that an entire brigade was moved from one place to another in under 48hrs. That whole Kontum/Dak To area was a bad-assed place even back then. Every unit that operated around there during the whole war got there ass kicked at one time or another. As far as I know, it was never pacified.

Welcome Home, Bro.
