9 Inf Doc.
I sporterized a Springfield 1903A3. Back in the sixties before I was drafted. My first hunting rifle. Its shot lots of deer. Yes, I was thinking of hitting the pawn shops or gun shows and trying to pick up a Mauser.
As a fly fisherman I tie my own flies. It gives you a special thrill to see a trout rise to something you've made. Same thrill when shooting something you have put your heart into. Do they sporterize an M-14? I've always thought that would be a fun weapon to make into a hunting gun. Keith |

As you may know, the reciever for the M1 Garand and the M14 is essentially the same except for provisions for a selector switch/auto fire. There is a Co. in Texas (Texas Armory?...not sure of the name off hand) that makes up what is basically M-14's without the selector switch from M1 recievers. These are designated as M1A's,or posibly M1A1's if I remember correctly. The ones that I have seen and fired were match grade and intended for use by Military Match competitors. They are very fine rifles but tend to carry pretty hefty price tags.
