As Commander-In-Chief BHO II or Jr. should also have known that U.S. Military Horses are used in Afghanistan, too.
Special Forces and Special Ops types train with horses at Fort Bragg. Such critters can carry tons of ammo, armaments & supplies over terrible terrain, as they faithfully and obediently did successfully for the quite famous Merill's Marauders of WWII. Many horses or mules(?) actually go to quite mountanous Afghanistan with The Troops. Neil
