Angry We & They

1-19-2019

There Ain’t NO “We” In “They” and the piece that follows pretty well exemplifies what maybe [?] going on right under our very noses.

No one expects the members of OUR Government to have to count pennies but this is damned well ridicule.

SHUTDOWN BREAK 2019! 30 Dems, 109 lobbyists party in Puerto Rico as federal workers go without pay

January 12, 2019

By Martin Walsh

It’s Shutdown Break 2019!

Democrats are so worried about the partial government shutdown and federal workers being furloughed that many lawmakers are skipping town for a luxurious retreat.

More than 30 Democrats are headed to Puerto Rico with 109 lobbyists and corporate executives for the weekend to discuss their “shared priorities.”

As noted by The Washington Examiner, Democratic lawmakers are taking fancy charter flights to their luxury resort, where they will also be seeing the Broadway show Hamilton and attending at least three parties.

The retreat in San Juan is hosted by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC, where “key officials” will reportedly discuss “clean-up” options after Hurricane Maria at a round table Saturday.

Outside of that one event, it doesn’t look like the nearly three dozen Democratic lawmakers will be doing anything other than vacationing and doing absolutely nothing.

“We are excited for you to join us for CHC BOLD PAC’s 2019 Winter Retreat in San Juan, Puerto Rico! Each year, this retreat serves as a way for our CHC BOLD PAC Members and friends in the D.C. community to come together to escape the cold and discuss our shared priorities for a stronger and more prosperous country,” said a memo on the trip.

“This year’s winter retreat promises to be our most widely attended yet with over 220 guests, including 39 Members of Congress and CHC BOLD PAC supporters expected to attend and participate!” the planning added.

The seaside resort where the event is taking place is so nice that rooms go for $429 a night and all food and drinks are being provided.

In total, BOLD PAC, the political arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, reported that they chartered 737 members, their families, and chiefs of staff to attend the event over the weekend.

The memo also informed everyone that the weather will be a perfect 80 degrees and that the dress code is “resort casual.”

The group did not identify which Democratic lawmakers were attending the event, but a list obtained by the Examiner shows that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s name is on it.

She reportedly did not make the trip — perhaps aware of how bad it would make her look — but other top Democrats such as Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., and Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., reportedly made the trip.

Democrats partying it up and enjoying a swanky vacation comes as the part of the federal government has been shutdown for nearly three weeks.

It’s unclear if Pelosi will attend the event of not, but if she does, it would mark the second time in three weeks that she has gone on vacation during the shutdown.
Over Christmastime, Pelosi traveled to Hawaii and stayed at a resort that charges up to $10,000 a night for presidential suites.

While President Donald Trump didn’t leave Washington, D.C, for Christmas and has been pleading with Democrats to strike a deal for wall funding and to reopen the government, Pelosi was vacationing at The Fairmont Orchid, a 5-star resort on Hawaii’s Big Island.

A standard room at the luxury resort starts at just shy of $1,000 per night and accommodation can cost up to $10,000 per night for the presidential suite.

Trump and Democrats are still locked over the issue of border security, with Pelosi refusing to make any deal at all for border wall funding.

As evidenced by this retreat, Democrats are far more concerned with their sun tans than reopening the government and protecting the American people.

Case in point: New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez was seen on the beach, working on his tan with a bikini babe:

HC - I would imagine the Republican's also have their get away plans - they are not much different than the Dem's. I'm neither a DEM or REP - I'm American who wants to see things get done - within the margins that don't hurt the United States as a Whole. I hate politics always have - they beat each other to death and the newspaper's love to write about it. What we have is a crisis within the system at present. They are the only ones who can work it out to get a resolve. The only input any American has is his or her vote on election days. After which - we are pretty much out of the picture until the next election. Like Forest Mother told him you never know what's in a box of chocolates.

Once these elected folks get in - they often times find out that they can't work together - so here then there isn't much we can do about it and I doubt any of them really reads any of our emails or letters sent by us.

Our Country's image isn't looking so good too many including our allies (if we still have any)? Sure we've got lots of issues - but lately it seems we have plenty of dirty laundry hanging out to dry as well.

Open Government and get back to work. I think if Congress went on strike they should loose 100% of their pay (with no back-pay) until they get it resolved. I also think they should not leave the Congress or White House area until it is resolved!. No pleasure cruises and no travel! This also means Mr. President you need to work with Congress not just have a tantrum (because you can)! It seems politics is a dirty business and the worst I've ever seen in awhile.

Your Duties are "to the People" and not just to any particular party. You are supposedly educated people? - At least I used to think so. You don't all think alike nor will you agree on many things but don't make them personal - "We The People" depend you guys to do WHAT'S RIGHT!
