Vietnam War veteran, Native-American author speaks of experiences in
life, war

(EXCERPT) As people across the United States celebrated Veterans Day
in honor of those who have served in the U.S. military, a Vietnam War
veteran and Native-American author spoke to MSU students and faculty
about his experiences fighting for his country.

Sgt. Delano Cummings, a member of North Carolina's Lumbee tribe,
brought his two books to read and sign.

His first book, "Moon Dash Warrior," focuses on his three
tours-of-duty as a Marine in Vietnam, his return to civilian life and
the stories of people he served with.

"Fifty-eight thousand men are on that wall in Washington, and I was
with some of them when they were killed," Cummings said. "It's my job
to tell their story."

Cummings tours the country speaking to high school and college
students and promoting "Moon Dash Warrior" and his second book, "River
Dreams: Tales of a Lumbee warrior."

He also visits the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on a regular basis and
meets with other veterans and reflects on friends he lost in the war.
