Arrow Iranian officials are divided about the disastrous economic agreement with China

Iranian officials are divided about the disastrous economic agreement with China
By: Iran News - Martin Karim of PMOI News 04-05-21
Re: https://english.mojahedin.org/i/iran...ajlis-20210405

Not counting the ship being hit on an earlier CBS report
this one also has some issues going on (see below)

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, April 5, 2021—In the first session of the Majlis (parliament) in the new Persian calendar year, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Majlis, praised the disgraceful economic deal between the Iranian regime and China and claimed that the regime is undermining the United States by entering this agreement.

“We stress that we welcome the Comprehensive Iran-China Cooperation Program,” Ghalibaf said. “The signing of this agreement would be a strategic step if it means believing that the world is not limited to the West and that the next century is the century of Asia. The signing of this document is also an important warning to the United States to realize that international relations are rapidly changing to the detriment of the United States.”

Meanwhile, other members of the Majlis expressed concern about the possible repercussions of the agreement in the Iranian society. MP Ali Alizadeh said: "The secrecy of the contract with China will lead to pessimism in the public.”

Alizadeh also warned that the lack of transparency in the agreement will have the reverse effect of what Ghalibaf has suggested.

“Regarding the cooperation document between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the People's Republic of China .... the issue is the secrecy and this document’s lack of transparency. According to Articles 77 and 125 of the Constitution, the parliament must be informed, and we must not have anything secret from the people about foreign relations. This will definitely make the public pessimistic,” he added.

The China-Iran agreement comes at a time that Iran’s economy is in ruins due to decades of corruption and destructive policies by the regime. According to known details about the deal, China will invest $400 billion in different sectors, including banking, telecommunications, ports, railways, health care, and IT. Basically, the regime has forfeited the country’s economic infrastructure to a foreign power.

The little detail that has leaked about the deal reveal it to be so disastrous that even the regime’s own officials are comparing it to the Turkmenchay Treaty, in which the Qajar monarchy ceded large swathes of Iran’s northern reaches to the Russian empire.

According to what has been leaked to analysts and media, the Iran-China treaty has nothing for Iran and has only liquidated the country’s resources, including the oil, gas, petrochemical industries along with Iran’s economic infrastructure. The treaty also gives China a security and military foothold in Iran. While the regime might get a bit of windfall cash to continue its destructive policies, the deal will only result in more poverty, unemployment, and misery for the people.

In this regard, MP Ahmad Alireza Beigi warned about the consequences of the catastrophic economic situation due to government corruption:

“If the mistakes of the past are not compensated and no solution is found to change the current situation, great damage will await us. People will react at an opportune time.

The feeling of oppression in the plundered investors in stock market, anger and rage from the unfortunate consequences of the incident of raising gasoline prices, unbridled inflation, and long queues to buy oil and chicken cannot be ignored. The effects of these catastrophes will be evident in the upcoming elections.”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personal note: The middle east is soon to have a firefight between China and Iran.
I wonder how this will go over. Boy the Middle East will never settle down and another war will flare up of which is OK with me at least they are fighting amongst themselves.
