Democrat Lawmakers DEMAND More Social Media Censorship

It’s no secret that liberal Democrats in the House of Representatives hate free speech. To this end, the House Energy and Commerce Committee called a hearing and demanded that the CEOs of Facebook, Google, and Twitter appear to answer questions yet again. However, the hearing took a dark turn as Democrats essentially demanded that the heads of the leading social media platforms either enact more stringent censorship policies or face the prospect of legislative punishment.

What would government involvement in internet censorship look like? For months, Democrats in both houses of Congress have talked about their willingness to abolish Section 230, commonly referred to as the First Amendment of the internet. Put simply, this portion of the Communications Decency Act shields social media companies from liability due to the fact that social media sites, unlike regular newspapers, magazines, and journals, don’t publish their own content but rather allow people to put up their own posts.

Without Section 230, the internet would look very different than it does today. Social media sites would either restrict user rights or police content to take down anything that could be the slightest bit offensive to anyone else. Democrat Rep. Lizzie Fletcher went even further, suggesting that the government should make a list of “domestic terror organizations” to “track and remove.”

Naturally, Rep. Fletcher didn’t bother to mention what “criteria” the government would use to determine who would be considered a domestic terrorist. However, given current liberal stances, it’s not hard to imagine who would make the list.

Anyone opposed to the COVID-19 vaccine could kiss social media goodbye. Those who question the wisdom of lockdowns and mask-wearing would likely be dumped from social media channels. Organizations, activists, and even regular individuals who speak out against gay marriage, transgenderism, abortion, or even socialism could face permanent social media bans. Even a seemingly innocuous comment or a misconstrued photo could bring about a permanent ban.

The whole idea of having the government determine what “disinformation” or “domestic terror” on social media looks like is laughable given the fact that federal government bureaucrats themselves couldn’t get information right during the early days of the COVID pandemic. Supposedly “tolerant” liberals want to silence anyone who dares to disagree with their agenda.
