Nikki Haley Responds to Iran's Refusal of Military Site Inspections: Iran Showing 'True Colors'

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley released a statement Thursday condemning Iran’s refusal to allow inspections of the country’s military sites to check compliance with the nuclear deal. Iran's government spokesman Mohammad Bagher Nobakht called Haley’s demand to inspect the sites “merely a dream.”

“If inspections of Iranian military sites are ‘merely a dream,’ as Iran says, then Iranian compliance with the JCPOA is also a dream,” Ambassador Haley said.

According to the nuclear deal the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is “permitted to seek access to any location in Iran, including military-affiliated sites, where the IAEA has questions about possible nuclear-related activities.”

“If the IAEA were to seek access to Iranian military sites to verify Iran’s nuclear declaration, Iran must follow the unambiguous access provisions of its IAEA safeguards agreement, the Additional Protocol, and the JCPOA,” according to Haley’s statement.

However, despite pressure from the U.S., UN nuclear inspectors do not feel it is necessary to inspect Iran’s military sites, according to Reuters. The UN’s nuclear watchdog released a report claiming Iran was in compliance with the deal despite the country’s refusal to allow inspection of their military sites.

Haley also slammed the announcement by the terrorist group Hamas that it had restored relations with Iran and was receiving financial and military aid from Tehran.

“Under UN Security Council Resolution 2231, Iran is prohibited from exporting any and all arms absent Security Council approval. That same UNSCR 2231 embraced the JCPOA, the nuclear deal with Iran,” Haley's statement points out.

“Once again, Iran is showing its true colors,” she said. “Iran must decide whether it wants to be a member of the community of nations that can be expected to take its international obligations seriously or whether it wants to be the leader of a jihadist terrorist movement. It cannot be both. It’s long past time for the international community to hold Iran to the same standard that all countries who actually value peace and security are held to.”

Rouhani Threatens Iran Can Abandon Nuclear Deal 'Within Hours'

Congress recently enacted the Countering Iran's Destabilizing Activities Act of 2017, a bill that would enforce sanctions against Iran for its ballistic missile testing. Iranian President Hasan Rouhani, who was reelected in May, insisted that the sanctions violate the nuclear agreement Iran made with the Obama administration in 2015. If we don't back off the new mandates, he said in a speech Tuesday, then Iran could break the agreement "within hours."

“If America wants to go back to the experience (of imposing sanctions), Iran would certainly return in a short time — not a week or a month but within hours — to conditions more advanced than before the start of negotiations,” Rouhani told a session of parliament broadcast live on state television.

As Hot Air's Ed Morrissey notes, Iran's threat is moot. Rouhani's words only have weight if the reality is Iran ever stopped its nuclear development.

Fox News has some more details to suggest that Iran is chugging along with its nuclear program.

In June, the National Council of Resistance of Iran revealed details of the escalation of the Iranian missile program, proving the nuclear threat to be real. The opposition coalition identified more than 40 sites for missile development, manufacturing, and testing, all of which were under the control of the IRGC. What’s more, at least one of those sites was known to be collaborating with the Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research, known by its Farsi acronym SPND, the institution tasked with weaponization activities related to the Iranian nuclear weapons program. SPND activities have continued since the JDPOA.

These revelations render President Obama's A+ one year review of his supposedly peaceful nuclear deal with Iran last year meaningless.

In the meantime, the U.S. is also dealing with nuclear threats from North Korea, whose aggressive rhetoric has been met with unflinching responses from President Trump and his Defense Department.
