Homecoming dates announced for six task-force ships
The Virginian-Pilot ? June 5, 2003 | Last updated 11:23 PM Jun. 5 The six ships of Amphibious Task Force East are scheduled to return to Norfolk and Virginia Beach on June 25 and 26, the Navy said Thursday. The task force deployed in mid-January, picking up 7,000 Marines off the shore of Camp Lejeune, N.C., and carrying them to the war with Iraq. The group of Marines, known as Task Force Tarawa, will go ashore with equipment at Onslow Bay in Morehead City, N.C., from June 22-24. Arriving June 25 at Norfolk Naval Station will be the amphibious assault ship Bataan and amphibious transport dock Ponce. The same day, the amphibious dock landing ships Ashland and Gunston Hall will arrive at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base in Virginia Beach. The other two ships in the task force, the amphibious assault ships Saipan and Kearsarge, will return to Norfolk Naval Station on June 26. http://home.hamptonroads.com/stories...108&ran=237301 Sempers, Roger
