Our second time to Ploesti, Romania.......
Mission No 29
April 29, 1944 Toulon, France The target was the sub dens, docks and some factories. We were at an altitude of 22,000 ft and it was 20 degrees below zero. A lot of flak was shot up, but none came close to our plane. There were no enemy fighters. We had P-38?s for our escorts. Mission No 30 April 30, 1944 Reggio Emilia, Italy The target was an airfield and an airdrome. We were at an altitude of 22,500 ft and it was 20 degrees below zero. There was no flak and no enemy fighters. It was a milk run. Mission N0 31 & 32 May 5, 1944 Ploesti, Romania The target was the oil refinery. We were at an altitude of 20,000 ft and it was 20 degrees below zero. There were no enemy fighters but a lot of flak. We had about 12 holes in our plane about as big as a silver dollar. |
