Default A bombs of Japan: were they necessary??

even today still a hot button issue. and thru every generation since the events took place. but even back then there were arguments for not using them. generals Marshall and Eisenhower as well as others in the military argued against using them. citing the war was all but over and Japan was finished anyway. or were they??? the scientists who invented it petitioned Truman to not use them. citing a test firing to show the Japanese its awesome power. in war like this you use your best weapon. Japan, I think, was far from finished. the Kamikaze attacks against the 7th fleet off of Okinawa proved they were far from finished. and they readied civilians for the invasion of their homeland. including women and children. if we invade how many more die??? how long will the invasion last???? most vets, anyway will tell you they were grateful to truman for ending it and saving their lives. and their families grief.

Hiroshima

Nagasaki

im certain if these bombs had not been dropped a lot of us would never have been born. agruments comments????

Japan's ability to wage war could have been ended without the A-bombs or an invasion.

But it would have meant isolating the Japanese mainland and the starvation of many times the number of Japanese civilians than were victims of the A-bombs.

Millions of Japanese would have starved to death before the government surrendered.

I do NOT think the bombs should have been used on civilian targets.

Default My understanding,...

...

...Is that the Japanese were in colaboration with the Germans, and all but had a version of a jet fighter ready through the Mitsubushi company, and I think I heard they had something like 60 almost ready to go which in turn could have wreaked quite a lot of damage upon ours?????,...

its true the Japanese were starving. but the Army cut off most of their food for the military. the Gov was trying to negotiate, thru the Russians a peace settlement. but the Army was in charge. after it was over the US brought in massive relief for the civilians. if we don't drop the bombs and end it how many US troops perish in the invasion??? ests were 1 million. which were always wrong. add to if we don't drop the bombs, invade then after the war grieving families find out Truman could have ended it I dare say Truman would have been impeached. his thoughts exactly.
remember the radio msg broadcast by the emperor announcing the surrender??? the night before Army hot heads busted into the palace and tried to seize it. but it was stored in a secret place. they were gonna fight to the last woman and child. and the agony would have been prolonged. at that time American lives were more important.

The German submarine that was carrying the blueprints for Japan's jet aircraft
was sunk by the British off Norway, I believe.

The jet aircraft of that era were primitive and used massive amounts of fuel.
The could carry only enough fuel to quickly rise to altitude, make a couple of passes, and back down again.

they did develope and use the rocket powered "Ohka" a 1 man suicide plane that was carried under the belly of bombers to the targets. the US fleet off Okaniwa. and with suscess.

Ohka Ohka like the German they were developing more advance jet fighters. but time ran out.

They had suicide weapons of all kinds.

They had, I believe, a piloted torpedo that could be launched from a submarine.
