Default Army Vietnam Veteran's Cap

I ran into this guy at a store today wearing that hat. I asked him where he was, thinking maybe we had been in the same place. He admitted right away that he was in the Army in 1966 but had not gone to Nam. There is nothing wrong with serving and not going to Vietnam but should he being wearing that cap? It didn't say Vietnam era. Is he a wanabe if he has a Vietnam cap or bumper sticker but when asked tells you right away that he wasn't there ???????????

Default Steve...

Although I appreciate his honesty.....it would seem that wearing a cap saying your a "Vietnam Veteran" denotes you were there. But....and this is something also to think of, many guys who never actually went overseas wear WWII Veteran caps and consider themselves WWII vets even though they might not have served overseas. I don't think General Marshall served overseas during WWII....think he was the Army's Chief of Staff at the Pentagon, but doubt anyone would say he's not a WWII Vet. Sooooooo, as the distiction has never been made as to WWII Vet/WWII ERA Vet.....I'm not sure that he would be considered a wannabe. Food for thought.

Default You see...

An intellectual thread is started and we have some intellectual answers to thought provoking questions....that is, until Bob, like a drowning man clinging to the last vestigages of his disolving, immaterial life, pops up like a turd in a broken drain field, to trash the post. I think it's time for David to send him to a virtual hell.

Default Similiar

situation I was with the 101st at FT Campbell C/1/501st. I admit that I have worn 101st ball caps, and 101st Tee-Shirts. But when people have come up to me and said thank for your service with 101st, I let them know that I was not airborne qualifed and the reason the airborne is still above the eagle is tradition, not becasue I was airborne qualified. I have not claimed no will ever claim to be something I am not. It takes a little more motovation to be an paratrooper. So I had enough motovation to be straight leg infantry.

After 3 tours in Vietnam and 22 years in the military your really modest to tell people your not airborne qualified. You sure have a right to ware those caps and t-shirts. thank you for your service. By the way, [I would feel uncomfortable wearing a Vietnam Vets cap and I guess thats why I wonder if this guy should be wearing one since he wasn't there.]

I think the reason why I don't have a V. Vets cap is I feel kind of modest about my service. A lot of people did a lot more then me.
