Tom,
I went fly fishing several years ago in my docker shorts. My legs sun burned so bad. I haven't worn shorts outside for years. When I do put them on, everyone puts on sunglasses.
I lived in the Bay Area one year. But in Sunnyvale Santa Clara. Just that little distance is a whole climate change compared to San Fransico. Keith |

SOME PLACES WE STAYED
We stayed at the Grand Hotel in Saigon, coming and going. This was a real nice hotel, dating back to the '30s. It cost us $60 a night, which was a cut rate. This was our most expensive lodging of the trip. As did all of our lodging fees, this included a buffet breakfast. This was served in a spacious dining room on the main floor. It had a good selection, including a chef on hand to make you an omelette to order. Their was also a roof top restaurant. We only tried to eat there once, and didn't have a good experience. Because of a large dinner party being catered to, our service sucked. We didn't get past the drinks, and went down the street for dinner. Plenty of good places to eat within easy walking distance.

The Grand
also had a pool, which was in the courtyard directly below our room. Other amenities included a gift shop, a safe in each room, a stocked 'fridge, bath robes and slippers.

THE GRAND HOTEL
is in the heart of the downtown. We were on the 10th flr. and had some great views, including some of the downtown area.

THE SAIGON RIVER
We could also see the river from our room. It was busy with alot of traffic most of the day. During the war, Saigon was a very busy port of entry for alot of war supplies for the Mekong Delta, Iron Triangle, Bien Hoa, Long Binh, etc.. Now, as then, it's a deep water port. Ships enter the mouth of the river at Vung Tau.

THE RIVER
traffic slowed down as night progressed. It would start picking up again as the sun started to rise.

QUI NHON
This was the first place that we stayed at on the coast. It was a very nice place, and the price was right: $27. As always, that included breakfast. This was the view of the bay from our room, looking south.
