It is with genuine grief that I add my voice of sorrow to the multitudes around the nation!

I learned just today that the ?Last Recognized Union Civil War Widow? has died and put a close to the Northern end of that war which pitted ?brother against brother, father against son.?

Gertrude Janeway, 93 years old, expired this last Friday at her home, a small cabin in Tennessee. She was but 18 years old when she married her husband, John Janeway, a Civil War Veteran who was many years her senior.

This leaves only one enduring soul, Confederate widow, Alberta Martin (95 years old) as the sole link to a part of our history that has surely defined what we are today.
