KODIAK, Alaska - Rear Adm. Christopher Colvin, commander of the 17th Coast Guard District, retired Marine Col. Jay Vargas, Coast Guard Capt. Matthew Bell, commanding officer of the cutter Munro and retired Army Maj. Drew Dix discuss the meaning of the Medal of Honor and the dedication ceremony of a bust of Petty Officer 1st Douglas A. Munro and a replica of his Medal of Honor on the cutter Munro Jan. 5, 2011.

Members of TriWest Healthcare Alliance and the Congressional Medal of Honor Society sponsored and presented the bust of Munro to the crew of the cutter.

Dix, Pittman and Vargas were part of a ceremony on the cutter presenting to the crew a bust of Munro and a replica of his Medal of Honor.

Munro was killed in action during the World War II Battle of Guadacanal rescuing 500 stranded Marines earning him the Medal of Honor, the Nation's highest honor for a military personnel.

The ceremony was sponsored by TriWest Healthcare Alliance and the Congressional Medal of Honor Society presenting the cutter's crew with a bust of Petty Officer 1st Class Douglas A. Munro and replica of his Medal of Honor.

KODIAK, Alaska - Medal of Honor recipient retired Army Maj. Drew Dix discusses Huey helicopters with Cmdr. Joe Deer, operations officer at Air Station Kodiak, who served as a pilot in the Army prior to his Coast Guard service Jan. 5, 2011, in the Air Station's Wardroom.

Dix and two other Medal of Honor recipients along with represetatives of TriWest Healthcare Alliance were in Kodiak for a dedication ceremony honoring the sacrifice and example of Signalman 1st Class Douglas A. Munro aboard the namesake cutter.

JUNEAU, Alaska – Petty Officer 3rd Class Jordan Roy, boatswainsmate, shows Medal of Honor recipients Drew Dix and Richard Pittman gear that is used on a daily basis at Coast Guard Station Juneau Jan. 4, 2010.

Pittman was a Marine master sergeant who received the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on July 24, 1966, during the Vietnam War.

JUNEAU, Alaska – Medal of Honor recipient Drew Dix, retired major with the U.S. Army who served in Vietnam, addresses Coast Guard members at Coast Guard Station Juneau Jan. 4, 2010.

Dix was the first enlisted man in special forces to be awarded the Medal of Honor and served 20 years prior to retiring.
