Default Death Announcement

7-17-2016

Some years back (2003-2004) we asked for the guidance of a great “Former Senator – Robert B. Morgan of North Carolina” in attempting to have a Bill introduced that would finally award a “Posthumous The Purple Heart Medal” to members of Our Armed Forces who died in enemy captivity between 1941 and the present, and even into the future if needs must!

Finally, and after appearing on “A Local TV News Channel”, my wife and a former Prisoner of War who was held in North Korea along with my wife’s late uncle who died in enemy captivity at age 20, were able to get the ball rolling! As a matter of fact, all of the United States Senate at that time, most of The House of Representatives, and some 35 National Veterans groups, got onboard and backed “The Bill (The Honor our Fallen Prisoners of War Act)! As such, it was implemented into “Existing Purple Heart Regulations” in October of 2008! Had it not been for “Former Senator Robert Morgan” who worked with us by guiding our path and offering advice, the families of the “17,000 to 21,000 Deceased American Prisoners of War” who are now eligible to apply for this Posthumous Award, might still be unrecognized for their ultimate sacrifice!

We received tragic news today from one of Senator Morgan’s beloved family members that he passed away peacefully in his sleep yesterday – 16 July 2016, at the age of 90!

RALEIGH, N.C. — Lillington native and former U.S. Senator Robert Morgan has died. He was 90 years old.

Morgan, a Democrat, served in the U.S. Senate from 1975 until 1981. After losing reelection in 1980, Morgan joined the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation where he worked until 1992 when he resumed general practice of law in Lillington, according to the U.S. Congress website.

Morgan also served in the North Carolina State Senate from 1955 to 1969 and as the state's attorney general from 1969 to 1974.

"We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Senator Robert Morgan," North Carolina Democratic Party Chairwoman Patsy Keever said in a statement on Saturday. "Senator Morgan did an excellent job representing North Carolina in the U.S. Senate. His non-profit work helped educate voters throughout the state and advanced the cause of democracy. Senator Morgan will be missed."
