Infrastructure Security
Infrastructure Security
RE: https://www.dhs.gov/topic/critical-i...cture-security Critical infrastructure describes the physical and cyber systems and assets that are so vital to the United States that their incapacity or destruction would have a debilitating impact on our physical or economic security or public health or safety. The nation's critical infrastructure provides the essential services that underpin American society. On November 16, 2018, President Trump signed into law the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Act of 2018. This landmark legislation elevates the mission of the former National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD) within DHS and establishes the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). CISA coordinates security and resilience efforts using trusted partnerships across the private and public sectors, and delivers technical assistance and assessments to federal stakeholders as well as to infrastructure owners and operators nationwide. The Department facilitates information sharing between the government and individual sites and industry sectors, as well as between facilities and sectors, by offering comparative assessment data that supports national-level, cross-sector risk analysis of nationally significant critical infrastructure. For the Department's federal, state, and local partners only, special reports, known as Infrastructure Protection Report Series, are available. These reports cover all 16 critical infrastructure sectors and identify common critical infrastructure vulnerabilities, sector-specific background information, and the types of terrorist activities that might be successful in exploiting these vulnerabilities. There are 16 critical infrastructure sectors whose assets, systems, and networks, whether physical or virtual, are considered so vital to the United States that their incapacitation or destruction would have a debilitating effect on security, national economic security, national public health or safety, or any combination thereof. Presidential Policy Directive 21 (PPD-21): Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience advances a national policy to strengthen and maintain secure, functioning, and resilient critical infrastructure. This directive supersedes Homeland Security Presidential Directive 7. PPD-21 identifies 16 critical infrastructure sectors: Picture of a chemical facility at dusk with lights on Chemical Sector The Department of Homeland Security is designated as the Sector-Specific Agency for the Chemical Sector.
