CLOWNING AROUND WITH THE ECONOMY
CLOWNING AROUND WITH THE ECONOMY
What a hoot it was to watch "Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod" go on the summer comedy circuit to tout the economic policies of George W! Winkin' was played by Treasury Secretary John Snow, Blinkin' by Commerce Secretary Don Evans, and Nod by Labor Secretary Elaine Chao. They sallied forth in the heat of August to Wisconsin and Minnesota, doing their best to wow the locals with what the White House PR hucksters billed as: "The Jobs and Growth Tour." With a hoard of media-types in tow, the Bush cabinet trio traveled in style to six cities in two days, aboard a luxury motor coach equipped with such rich touches as black leather sofas and a mirrored ceiling. They had the crowds in stitches with their slapstick schtick about how Bush's multibillion-dollar tax giveaway to the rich would soon trickle down and spread prosperity across the land. It was billed as a "dialogue tour," but the dialogue was decidely one-way, wth the cabinet honchos insisting at every stop that "the economy is picking up" and that George himself was "concerned" about us commoners. At the end of the road show, Secretary Snow said he was going to tell Bush that "I ran into a lot of people who asked me personally to express [their] gratitude to you for worrying and thinking about us." Yeah, George, thanks for the 2.7 million jobs lost under your economic stewardship. Thanks for KOing our 401(k)s, turning our retirement nest eggs into nightmares. Thanks for the two million more Americans who have been left without health care since you took office. Thanks for an economy in which corporations are dumping 200,000 workers a month, now shipping our high-tech and white-collar jobs out of the country. This is Jim Hightower saying... Maybe the comic cabinet members are fooling themselves, but they're not fooling anyone in the real world. After all, even a dog knows the difference between being stumbled over and being kicked. The Bushites are kicking America's middle-class and low-income workers. -=- NOTE: This message was posted via one or more anonymous remailing services. |
