Default A weird Veterans Day story

http://www.boston.com/news/odd/artic...return_wallet/

MILWAUKEE—A Milwaukee Army reservist says four muggers returned his belongings when they discovered his military identification.

The 21-year-old college student says he was walking home from work about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday when he was pulled into an alley and told to lay face down with a gun to his neck. Four men took his wallet, $16, keys and his cell phone.

But the reservist says when one of the men saw an Army ID in the wallet, he told the others to return items. He also apologized and thanked the reservist for serving.

The reservist says one robber gave him a quick fist bump before walking away.

The reservist asked not to be identified because the robbers still have his keys.

Milwaukee police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz says the story is credible. She says the suspects are being sought.

Angry Vandals Trash Vets Graves, Memorial In Kingston

http://wbztv.com/local/cemetery.vand...2.1306878.html

Kingston, MA; Police in Kingston are looking for the vandals who toppled some 80 headstones in the early morning hours of Veteran's Day.

"I thought about how disturbed she would be, to know that this not only happened to her stone, but that it happened at all," said Norman Tucker, whose mother is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery.

The vandals knocked over more than 80 headstones, some weighing close to 1,500 pounds.

They pushed entire families to the ground, and turned stones upside down.

Perhaps most unsettling, is that the vandals picked on the graves of several WWII vets on Veteran's Day.

The man who oversees the cemetery served in Vietnam.

"This was a senseless act by people who have no dignity," said Daryl Lawrence.

The vandals targeted more than headstones. They took down the memorial to local veterans across the street.

"That's pretty lousy," said cemetery board member Fred Navace. "It doesn't make any sense to me."

Some of the damaged headstones date back to the mid 1800s. Most are in areas that are hard to see from the street.

Caretakers say drinking teens have been chased from the cemetery's wooded hill many times, and wouldn't be surprised if there's a connection.

The Evergreen Cemetery contains about 800 family plots. This is its first case of serious vandalism in its 160-year history.
