Default Bloody April

On this evening, Sunday April 6th, 1862, a disorganized band of soldiers huddled in fear under the bluffs of the Tennessee River. A short distance away, another band of soldiers, feeling the exhaustion and thrill of victory on the battlefield, felt the loss of their beloved commander. Beauregard would complete the victory tomorrow; no need to take the river crossing tonight. Little did either band know what tomorrow would bring. The Army of the Ohio was marching through the night. Marching to support the mangled Army of Tennessee. Sunday and Monday, April 6th and 7th would be the bloodiest days America had ever seen.

Monday, April 7th. Yesterday's victors are now the vanquished. Joe Johnston's men now answer to P.G.T. Beauregard. The victory that seemed so clear last night has slipped away. Those that hid beneath the bluffs of Pittsburg Landing now own the battlefield. The little pond near the fields is now crimson red with blood. The beautiful peach trees that were full of blooms just days ago are now bare; stripped nude by the hail of cannon fire and small arms fire. The air was so thick with lead that two, and even three bullets were found on the field fused together in midair.

Tonight marks the bloodiest battle that America has known.
