Default Senate GOP set to ramp up Ukraine probe into Bidens as former Veep revives his 2020 c

By Jon Dougherty

(TNS) Former Vice President Joe Biden appears to have gaffed his way back into the 2020 Democratic presidential race with better-than-decent performances in several Super Tuesday states.

But that might be a very bad thing for him, because regaining frontrunner status in the eyes of many within the Democratic establishment has also elevated his status for Republicans in the Senate who are poised to reveal new findings regarding his and son Hunter’s alleged corrupt activities in Ukraine.
As POLITICO noted Wednesday, Senate Republicans are revamping their probe of the Bidens, with Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin announcing he’ll be soon releasing a report about Hunter Biden’s activities in Ukraine involving Burisma, an energy firm that paid him millions while Dad was Barack Obama’s Ukraine “point man.”

In a Q & A with reporters in Washington, Johnson — head of the Senate Homeland Security Committee — said the report should be ready for release in the next month or two, a timetable that is likely to depend on how well Joe Biden does moving forward.

“These are questions that Joe Biden has not adequately answered,” Johnson*said.*“And if I were a Democrat primary voter, I’d want these questions satisfactorily answered before I cast my final vote.”

Johnson insisted that the timing of his probe has nothing to do with the election calendar. But the renewed focus on Biden, coinciding with his surge to frontrunner status, has alarmed House Democrats as they brace for an all-out GOP assault on Biden and his son over an issue that was litigated at length during President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial. — POLITICO

Just a day or so ago, Joe Biden’s campaign was moribund, but what a difference 24 hours makes. Though Sanders still appears to be on pace to capture the most delegates before the party’s nominating convention in July, according to John Daniel Davidson at The Federalist, Biden could continue to pull off victories that will make his candidacy viable until the bitter end.

And that will likely further empower Republicans, who appear to be front-loading potentially damaging information about both Bidens as the campaign season continues.

POLITICO noted further that Democrats are now tuning in to President Trump’s Twitter feed even more so than normal, including those of his allies in Congress, to see what allegations are going to be made.

Though typically, POLITICO casts these corruption allegations against both Bidens as already having been debunked:

Democrats are now warily eyeing Trump’s Twitter feed — and his Republican allies in the Senate like Johnson — for the return of the widely discredited corruption charges against Biden that had seemed to fade from consciousness along with Biden’s flagging campaign.

Nothing has been “discredited” or ‘debunked.’ In fact, presidential lawyer Rudy Giuliani says he has reams of documents and piles of evidence alleging a series of RICO violations that, admittedly, have yet to result in charges.

But then, Biden hasn’t won anything yet. It very well could be that Republicans and Giuliani have simply been lying in wait to see what happens to the former vice president (as POLITICO itself appears to have recognized).

“After hearing nothing about Burisma over the course of the last couple weeks, the Republicans will revive it in a perfect demonstration of what this means to them, which is to be a cudgel to beat Joe Biden with,” Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, told POLITICO.

Well, of course that’s the strategy. But unlike the Russian collusion hoax Democrats and the Deep State unleashed on the 2016 Trump campaign, we’re betting that Giuliani, a former federal prosecutor who, no doubt has a score to settle, is in possession of, shall we say, much more ‘credible’ evidence.

Speaking of which, POLITICO notes that the Democratic counter-strategy to push back against the Biden-Ukraine report and findings is to…allege that Republicans are doing Moscow’s bidding again.*Naturally.

But that lie serves two purposes: Political pushback but also to sow distrust of our electoral processes, something Democrats think will serve their interests in the long run.
