Wartime experiences

Every community in Australia has been touched by war, but how many of their local stories are known? The People's Voice is a new web site [www.peoplesvoice.gov.au] that attempts to bring together the histories of communities across Australia. It gives towns and cities, large and small, across Australia the opportunity to share their story: what they were doing at the time of Federation; how they have contributed to the nation since then; and what they are like now. The result is a community-level window showing how Australians have contributed to the nation since Federation, in times of war and peace.

There are three parts to the web site - Community, Federation and Wartime heritage. There are eight-nine[89] towns with wartime heritage stories on The People's Voice so far. Considering Australia's involvement in the Boer War, World War 1, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and many other conflicts, this number should rapidly increase.

It is hoped that the Wartime heritage section will include stories, photographs and information regarding community sacrifices and the sacrifices made by those who served their country.

The site maybe in its infancy but in time, you may get an insight into life down-under.
