Default B-40 ?

Reading Poole's "Phantom Soldier" and ran across B-40 and RPG . This was in Hue during the Tet 68 fighting.

What is the differance between the two ?

Default RPG

Ah So. Thanks LT. Never ran across that reference before.
In the olden days it was RPG 2 and RPG 7.

I think the B-40 was the RPG2. That RPG 7 was a mother. I think the RPG is a wonderful weapon and have always wondered why we don't copy it - would add a lot to a squads firepower.

Okay, last edit, I swear!

B-40 is the warhead. RPG-7 (Or Chicom Type 69) is the launcher.

Default That's A True Story, Lt.

Lt. said: -would add alot to a squads fire power.

This was an awesome weapon. Also a scarey one. It was almost silent compared to mortars. This thing was devastating when used as a anti-personnel weapon. It could be used in open country or in the jungle and bamboo thickets in the Highlands. This thing could take out an APC, no problem, so you can imagine what it could do to the human body. Blow a man to pieces, or take off an arm, or both legs. One rocket would cause several casualties. Probably gonna have nightmares now.

Default Like most of their weapons

Very simple and very effective. RPG2 was a Bamboo tube launcher with open sights, RPG7 was a metal tube with graduated range finder sights. Like Desdichado said, B40 was the rocket. I think that for a protracted war we have gone to far high tec with the Infantry weapons and gear. Where you going to get the batteries to run all this stuff when supply lines are long and slow. How ya going to act without batteries? I can see the high tech stuff for armor and arty but down in the trenches it gets real close and personal. Oops, Scuse me for just a minute while I change batteries, WHAT??? What do you mean "Time out cards don't work here" But,,,, But my drill sergent let me use them. MOMMY!!!

Batteries?!?

Cripes... this ain't Nintendo.

I had NO idea anything was being run on freakin' batteries except maybe radios...of which the longest cell life I've heard yet is about 18 hours at best... wouldn't have done much good at Battle of the Bulge.
