Default Military surplus Rifle Range report

I have been going to the range about once a week to shoot some of the Military Surplus rifles I've picked up over the last year or two. Theres not much else I can do and I spend most of my time at the range sitting and aiming. I usually have the place to myself when I go during the week days but this past week I decided to try a Saturday.
I got to the range and there were ten or so adults and several kids, I seemed to be the focus of interest as I started unloading my SUV.
But I really drew a crowd when out came the oxygen tank and 25 foot of hose, making sure the range was clear I fired several round from my Finnish captured Model 39. I had to bang the bolt with my plam to work the action which is not too unusual for a Russian that is been rework in Finland. Out comes the rubber hammer, hell I'm not hurting my hand any more to get the bolt open. This guy comes running up and offers to look at my rifle if I agree not to beat it into splinters, hell why not ? Was not my intention but why look a gift horse in the mouth ? We agree a change of ammo will help the situation. I let him shoot my gun and it rocks his boat. 7.62 X 54 rimmed will do that. I love it.

ArtySgt : sounds like a great day shooting. I have been enjoying shooting my winchester model 72 (built between 1939 and 1959).22cal. I recently had a new barrel put on it and fixed the stock and can shoot in the ten range with the iron sites now . I bet that finnish Model 39 is fun to shoot too My Wife reloads our rifle ammo and her 30.06 shoots some hot rounds that shoot flames a foot out the barrel in daylight I shoot 180gr 30/30 rounds in my Marlin 336. Now I just have to find a stupid deer to enter my back yard my wife made me some 110gr 30/30 rds for my marlin so I wouldn't tear up the rabbits so much with the 150gr bullets. Always glad to hear about rifle stories and Thanks for writing about yours .

Went out to shoot my new "Toy" this weekend. I bought a SAA in .32-20 to go along with my Mod. 92 Winchester. I get really tight groups with the Winchester (under 2 inches at 100 yards but I was all over the paper with the pistol at 25 yards. Maybe I'll get a little better with it after a couple of hundred rounds. The pistol was made in 1897 but the bbl. was cut from 5 1/2 to 4 3/4 because it has a one line address on the top. I got it for the price of a 3d generation SAA. It's just about mint.

Sounds like a nice pistol and the price was right. I have always been interested in the old type pistols but they cost so damn much they are out of my price range.
