Default Another member of "The Greatest Generation" gone

At 11:15 last night my Uncle Joe, my Godfather, died10 days after his 91st birthdayafter a long painful bout with cancer. He was a medic in the 4th Infantry Division who took part in the re-taking of the Aleutians in 1942 and '43. He spent the rest of the war dividing his time between Alaska and Virginia working in US Army hospitals specializing in GI's with mental problems. Man, he told some hairy stories about those poor guys.

He was a good guy, Uncle Joe. He taught me how to be a catcher and took me tomany Red Sox games. On summer nights we'd sit on the front porch (his family lived upstairs from us)listening to the Sox on WHDH radio from Boston. To this day I can still sing the Narragansett beer jingle they played between innings.

He worked hard all his life, took good care of his wife and kids, was a member of the American Legion, and a good Catholic.

So long, Uncle Joe, meu padrine, I'll miss you.

Sounds like you were blessed to have a great man like him in your life. May he rest well and without pain.
