Default Guerrilla Warfare

I actually have a copy of Che Guevara's "Guerrilla Warfare" gathering dust on a shelf somewhere. I'm gonna have to hitch up a hammock and read that one some time.

I haven't seen a copy of that one for maybe 30 years or so? Should be an interesting read... I sometimes find the forgotten books quite timely. Let us know if anything pops out at ya...

Welcome Home, Americal!

Well, there's a sketch of a sort of "molotov cocktail mortar" on rifle grenade principles using a sawed-off 16 gauge shotgun on a home-made bipod.

The butt of the shotgun is placed on the ground so as to form a tripod. The shotgun shell contains a long stick that protrudes out the end of the barrel. On the end of the stick is a molotov.

Man, oh, man you couldn't pay me enough to be the sucker that had to fire that! Too much charge and whoooosh!

Ah, Che Guevara, he never could figure it out. Communist Revolutions never could start in industrial countries, only dirt poor nations.

I've read his book "The Motorcycle Diaries". I'd recommend that one to anyone, regardless of political persuasion. It's his own thoughts on his political "awakening" as he toured South America on a rigid framed Norton thumper as a young feller. Like I say, it's a good read and not too heavy on the "Go Team Red" stuff. Actually, it hardly appears at all until the very end.

Been glancing through Guerrilla Warfare, and it seems to be a pretty basic manual on how to set up, operate and supply a guerrilla cell. A lot of the tactics he discusses will be familiar to anyone who operated in VC country - obviously they read his book. I'd have to say, though, they could teach him a thing or two. The defensive works he sketches aren't worth spit next to Mr. Charles' art.

Sarge & Des -

Interesting that Guevara's book is on how to set up a guerrilla cell etc...and how VC must've/might've read his book... wonder if the action against us in Iraq is, then, properly termed "guerrilla" warfare? I'd be very curious to know what you think about this question...

One of the best books about guerilla warfare was written by Robert Rogers, the founder of Rogers' Rangers, back in the 18th century and is still taught at West Point.

Thanks for that tip Dan, I'll see if I can find a copy... if they still teach it at West Point then it must be pretty damn good!
