SH,
There was an investigation and it is documented in "Manual of the Judge Advocate General Basic Final Investigative Report Concerning the Fire on Board the USS Forrestal (CVA-59)" It is a 7500-page report, was published by the Department of the Navy in 1967. It is not classified. "Plat Coverage, USS Forrestal CVA-59, 29 July 1967 [Film 428 NPC 38757, raw flight-deck film footage]. Washington, DC: United States Navy, 1967 is also out there. I also do not defend John McCain, and I agree he did nothing wrong.

Hey, Hawk and Covan! Stop putting up evidence and convincing personal experience. It gets in the way of a interesting argument.
BobK, aren't you the most contradictory man on earth? Pack

39,
Why can't you understand that there is an official report? Instead you choose to base your opinion on a 1/2-hour conversation with an individual you want to ingratiate. I don't think I ever deduced that 2x2=78 so I don't know where that comment came from. Maybe in your world it is 5 but to me it has always been 4. I see and read whatever I wish and arrive at my opinions based on the facts presented. I am not afraid to do research and locate relevant data to support or defeat the facts presented. I do not take someone else's opinion at face value. In the instant case, I am not taking that individual's short conversation with you at face value. Invite him on here to defend his thesis. We'll see where that goes.

WOW!
39, Fight with the facts, not opinions! Not information that you want us to believe! If bricks were opinions, you'd have built a wall already. I agree with Pack! The EVIDENCE and FACTS are there, presented in the times most avilable form. Videos and cameras had a lot of technology lacking, so you see what the world saw. And heard the best "on site" vocals. Not like today when the reporter is strapped to the backpack of the soldier. Talk about "beating a dead horse". Sorry...just stating a fact.

So if I'm to get the story straight, McCain ran to the F-4 and with a Bic Lighter heated one of it's Zuni Rockets, he then ran and got back into his plane, (knowing dammed well the Zuni was going to hit his plane), he then dumped at least 400 gallons of JP-5 on to the flight deck, (he was carrying this in a Thermos), while dumping the fuel he also detached some of the old 500 lb bombs so they'd sit in the burning fuel and kick off, (his arms worked really good before he was captured and taken as a POW) with out worrying about his own life he punched off his own Zuni Rocket, then and only then with his own plane on fire he casually walked on to his planes own refueling probe and jumped to safety! His Daddy, John Sidney McCain, Jr. (January 17, 1911 ? March 22, 1981) was a four star admiral in the United States Navy, During the Vietnam War, Admiral McCain was serving as Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Pacific Command when his son, Navy pilot (and future U.S. senator) John S. McCain III was held in Hanoi as a prisoner of war for nearly 5 1/2 years. He was involved in the investigations that followed the USS Liberty incident. Is more than likely the reason John III's was never personally held accountable for the Forrestal fire. But what do I know, for 3 1/2 years I thought I was stationed aboard an CV, so that means absolutely nothing. As an Airedale(?) I never saw a single plane, never watched the PLAT and VLS systems, in-fact had no clue as to what they are or were. I Don;t even know what those words mean. I never saw an another CV and thought that the one I was one was the only one in the fleet. I never stood behind a screaming Air Boss or Mini Boss (Who are they and what do they do?) when the shit was hitting the fan. (And it never, ever did!) I never saw an accident or incident. (I dreamed them up because I wanted PTSD.) I use to hop on and off the flight deck to get off and on the boat, wasn't hard I was in really good shape, I think. Wait a second, I was never in the Navy, it's all been a dream! That being the case I must have never gone to Boot Camp, and watched the film "Trail by Fire"! I must not have ever gone to fire fighting school every year and watched the film "Trail by Fire!" I must not have been a Training Petty Officer and shown the film "Trail by Fire" as part of the Navy's restoration to duty program. It's a conspiracy I tell you! My Dad (if he really is my dad) used his influence and power as a retired NYC Patrolman to cover this up for all these years......
