Default Vietnam Trivia Quiz

Well, geez Louise, I go away for a few days and things go to hell everywhere-- I always thought so! Well, here's a little trivia quiz to argue over--there's some surprises
Answers in a few days

1) When and how did the US enter the war against the Vietnamese?
2) Who was Phan Boi Chanh? Who were Nguyen Sin Cung, Nguyen Ai Quoc, Truhn Linh, Nguyen Tat Thanh, Li Thuy, Lou Rosta, Wang, Nilofsky?
3) In February 1965, an incident happened in Pleiku. What was it and what effect did it have on the war?
4) What were Ho Chi Minh?s favorite brand of cigarettes?
5) In 1959 a PAVN colonel started scouting the Truong Son route. Name the colonel and the unit he commanded. What was the truong Son route also known as?
6) Who commanded the Communist Forces in South Vietnam? (hint: the only other dao trung besides Vo Nguyen Giap)
7) Who had the Four Points? Who had the Fourteen Points? (extra points: name one of each)
8) What incidents galvanised Vo Nguyen Giap into radicalism?
9) Who was the fist American killed in Vietnam
10) Where did Ho Chi Minh live in the United States?. For how long? (extra points: tell how he got there)

?If they force us into war, we will fight! The struggle will be atrocious but the Vietnamese people will fight forever rather than renounce their freedom!?
Ho Chi Minh
?If those gooks want a fight, we?ll give it to them!? Gen Etienne Valluy.

A prescient person can see why the Vietnamese won.

Post tough

James have you been reading again? I thought we asked you not to do that. Interesting questions, I?ll try a few, too lazy to look anything up.

1. Most people would answer the Tonkin incident. However by 1954 most of the supplies the French were using were made in the USA. At Dien Bien Phu most everything was being flown in my Americans flying DC-3?s. We had to support the French so that DeGaul would back us up in Europe which was considered much more important. American military types were killed in Vietnam in 1945, ambushed by VC, or maybe the French. It seems we just slowly slid into that conflict, very slowly. Any date given could be rebutted.
2. Who were all those guys - Vietnamese.
3. Pleiku in Feb. ?65? Didn?t an airfield get attacked and Americans were killed? As a result regular Divisions were brought in to ?guard? the airports?
4. I remember seeing a picture of Ho with a pack of smokes in his hand, think it was Camels (unfiltered of course), but being Vietnamese you?d think the answer would be Salems.
5. Would that be the Ho Chi Minh Trail?
7. T. Woodrow Wilson had the 14 points, the League of Nations being the most important.
8. Giap was a radical because a female member of his family was raped by a French soldier. (sounds good)
9. First American killed: Hiram H. Colbe, killed in Saigon while on a trading mission in 1857.
10. Ho really did live in New York City and was a dishwasher for almost 2 years. How did he get to the US? By boat would be my guess. It?s a difficult walk and American Airlines hadn?t been invented yet.

Stay healthy, good to see you James,
Andy

Default I think the first American KIA

In the Vietnam Conflict was a guy named Walter Moon. I believe Moon Hall at Bragg is named for him.

Default Col. Murphy

Sir, it is so good to see you posting. I need all the help I can get keeping this bunch under control. Do you know what the marines tried to tell us. They said that they are so tough that they use a P-38 for a bayonet. Are they really that tough? Is the P-38 really a weapon?

Seriously I do miss your postings on history, and military weapons.

Keith

Default Hi Keith!

Tell those Marines that we used nail clippers as bayonets. The P-38 was an Airplane that SF and Airborne Wannabees used to jump out of, also the Fulton Extraction System was how SF medics used to pull teeth when they had to. LOL

Default So you've been

So you've been boiling in a hot tub while we have ben wondering where you were? I have been boiling on the Appalachian Trail up in Shenandoah National Park. Didn't know they were having a heat wave and drought. I got too hot, threw up and went into atrial fibrillation. I spent the night in the hospital in Luray, Va. (beautiful place) getting potassium and cardiazem. Our mission was accomplished, however. We caused two thunderstorms which greened up the valley and put out two forest fires. We oughta charge them. Had a good time but next time make room for me in the hot (cold) tub.

Default Quiz

I mostly agree w/Andy.
#1. The 1954 Accords to vote on who controls the country.
#2. All names Uncle Ho used to confuse the French.
#7. Wilson - 14 pts and FDR - 4 pts.
#8. ?
#10. NYC because of the French control of Vietman at the end of WWI, Uncle Ho was a communist delegate to the peace talks for Vietnam. Should remember Ho Chi Minh was a nationalist first, a communist second in terms of his country.
