Political debate threads

Political debate threads need to be posted in the political debate forums. Accounts posting political debate threads in the general or other forums will have privileges to those forums suspended.

This may seems harsh but many people using the forums have no desire to engage in politics on this site as it is a military history site not a political debate site. It is not fair to those wishing to use the site for what it was intended to be constantly bombarded with threads of a political nature.

No problem Joy, it is a rule that has not been enforced much lately with the elections and everything else going on but it does strain many peoples desire to use the forums.

what is political?
Obama has already been elected, reporting on his bad judgment or his appointees unlawful deeds wouldn't seem political, Kind of like reporting that someone is a thief, or a liar or corrupt or a Muslim.
If you really wanted to you could tie every issue into a political statement. Global warming, It's Gore, so it's political?
Obama picked the Steelers, so it's political to talk Steelers?
The 800 billion that the Dems just passed threw the house is a giant waste of Taxpayers money, Political, I don't know, I think it just some idiots spending our money poorly.
During an election race, comments about one party’s members or the other, are most likely political, However the race is over and now if Obama or Biden say or do something really stupid, I wouldn't consider remarking about the stupidity as a political statement.
So I ask again, What is political?

That is a tough question to answer Ron. You are right almost anything could be political, especially given the current state of affairs in our country.

If the article is fundamentally critical of a political viewpoint I would judge it as debatable and therefore its proper place would be in the political debate forum.

Thanks, Dave. I have been guilty of this too and I was getting sick of it. Two things are certain, nobody is going to change anyone else's mind and nothing we say is going to change anything in politics.

You put threads wear every you wish, But by your sketchy definition,

So what would it be if the article was Fundamentally in favor of a political viewpoint?

I think Threads live or die no matter what forum they are in by people responding to them, OR not.
I think most people don't go to the Political forum, so by putting a thread that may or may not be "political" from the General forum to the political forum, Effectively kills a (maybe ) good thread.
The General forum, I presume, Is to talk about anything. Unless the anything is perceived, by some , as political.
Ya know, If people don't want to talk about Fords and Chevy's, just don't respond, and the thread will die. If some people that don't start a NEW thread of their own, just what right do they have to say where any thread goes?
Lastly, It's your house, Arrange the furniture how you like.

I would like permission to put all gun control issues and legislation in General.

Some people here never read the political threads but have strong interest in gun control.

The general forum should be for any issue or by it's own definition the Thread "Political debate threads " should be in the Political debate forum.
