Angry Board of Elections gaffe may nullify New York soldiers' overseas absentee

Board of Elections gaffe may nullify New York soldiers' overseas absentee ballots

Soldiers from Fort Drum, NY, vote via absentee ballots during the 2008 election while serving in Iraq.

The Board of Elections is facing another "royal screwup" - this time for failing to ship absentee ballots to New York troops serving overseas.

"Our troops sacrifice their lives to protect our freedoms. They should never, ever be denied the right to vote," said Sen. Chuck Schumer, who pushed a 2009 law establishing deadlines for mailing absentee ballots.

New York election officials were required to ship the ballots to U.S. citizens living overseas by Sept. 17. Because New York primaries were held Sept. 14, the feds granted local officials an extension until Oct. 1.

Several New York counties blew past the extension - including the city's five boroughs.

Schumer urged election officials to rush delivery of the ballots to ensure that military votes are counted.

"Put these ballots on the next plane to Afghanistan," Schumer demanded. "There is absolutely no excuse for failing to get this done."

New York State Board of Elections officials informed the feds late last week of their failure to meet the Oct. 1 deadline, which also occurred in Westchester, Putnam, Erie and Niagara counties.

In all, there are 49,468 registered overseas voters in New York State, 20,172 of whom are in the military.

In the five boroughs, there are 36,446 registered overseas voters, including 6,557 who serve in the armed forces, election officials said.

"We send our young men and women overseas to fight and die for us, and we don't care enough to make sure they get the right to exercise their franchise?" fumed Mayor Bloomberg.

"That's what they're over there fighting for as much as anything else," he added.

City election officials said the absentee ballots for New Yorkers fighting abroad began getting shipped out on Sunday - 10 days past deadline.

City election officials, still reeling from a string of primary election snafus Bloomberg deemed a "royal screwup," said they were delayed because primary results weren't certified until last Tuesday.

Election officials reminded overseas voters that they can now sign up online at elections.state.ny.us to receive ballots.

The 2009 federal MOVE Act requires states to mail overseas ballots 45 days before the general election scheduled for Nov. 2 this year.

Absentee votes are counted until 13 days after Election Day.

State election officials said they would extend "the deadline for receiving those ballots back to New York State as much as we possibly can in compliance with our state law."

Default Wow!!!

Now: "Royal screw-ups" or obvious Law Breaking by Political Appointees are called:.........
"GAFFES"???

Whatever? Just try explaining such an asinine (no doubt purposeful also) DENIAL of Voting Rights to families & friends of deceased & wounded warriors, plus Live Warriors also.

That America's obvious Supremacist Political Breed (both electees & appointees) have quite some Audacity or a quite blatant Lordly Gall,...doesn't excuse such typical Voter Denial & Fraud one iota.

Why is such even permitted YEAR after YEAR?
Laws don't apply to Our Ruling Elite gods???
Sure-as-hell seems so.

"Board of Election Gaffe"? Can you spell F-E-L-O-N-Y? This wasn't a simple gaffe, but an intentional act to deny our warriors their privilege to vote. And guess what political party is deeply involved in this 'gaffe'?

Little wonder that our warriors despise the current administration.....

Wonder what both America's brave warriors & The People think about current DOJ,...ALSO???
No doubt most: "UN-Connected" Americans are quite similarly Disgusted.

Let me put it another way, Scout.
At least majority of sane Americans & NOT Ruling Clique always quite patronizingly
capitulating & apologetic to EVEN Foreign Enemies (domestic enemies inclusive)...
MUST BE DISGUSTED,...as are obviously most all other daily LORDED OVER Americans!!!

In re-reading this thread, and practically every other post dealing with the current political climate, there is a strange, if understandable silence by our leftist buddies. Maybe it's because they can't defend the indefensible, or are so ashamed of calling themselves Democrats that they are still hiding in their little bunkers. And finally, every time there is an incident involving voter fraud, intimidation, or screwing our warriors out of their votes, it always ALWAYS involves Democrats. How any veteran with an IQ only slightly higher than an onion could call himself a Democrat is a mystery to me.

Default Super.....,

"IQ slightly higher than an onion...", was great.

Still, you've got to realize that a lot of veterans worldwide will always remain just plain stubborn dupes,...no matter what.

Betcha that even amongst surviving German WWII Veterans there are still some fanatically
believing that Hitler's Nazis or National Socialist Democrats were best political party EVER.

Almost same could be said about Progressivism, Communism or Marxism being much preferred by some American & Soviet WWII Veterans.

Besides, usually Honorable types will solely ever admit being wrong anyway.

GOP rebel J.C. Polanco hands Board of Elections to Bronx Democrats
BOB KAPPSTATTER

Tuesday, August 17th 2010, 4:00 AM

It looks like Bronx Democrats have seized control of the city Board of Elections.

Their man now runs it and they hold the majority vote on the board, thanks to Bronx GOP commissioner J.C. Polanco.

Blame it on Republicans who backed the wrong horse and credit it to the man behind the curtain, Bronx power lawyer Stanley Schlein, along with Bronx Dem Boss Carl Heastie and GOP boss Jay Savino signing off on the deal.

J.C. broke a six-month stalemate for the exec director's seat last week by joining the five Dems to name longtime Deputy Exec George Gonzalez, whose longtime rabbi is Stanley.

J.C. and the Dems also voted in Dawn Sandow, Republican co-deputy at the Bronx office, as George's deputy.

Sources said Polanco and Savino are both livid that Republicans passed over J.C. for the top job.

Instead, they backed bringing former Queens state Sen. Serphin Maltese out of retirement from Florida - reportedly as a placeholder for former Elections Board President and ex-City Councilman Anthony Como - if he fails in his challenge to unseat Queens Democratic state Sen. Joe Addabbo.

Polanco, who works for Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb, griped to confidants the Republicans "said 'no' to me for a 77-year-old who doesn't know how to turn on a computer."

He's said he'll be voting with board Dems for the three years remaining on his term - with support from Savino, who sees some positive political tradeoffs in working with Heastie.

Officially, J.C. would only say: "There isn't a Democrat or Republican way to count the ballots. I'm proud of my decision to support George and Dawn. They are a fantastic team and the voters of the city are lucky to have them."

TKO for Peter

Default 1Cav...,

Your response was very detailed & no doubt very interesting to some.

Still, and regarding Overseas Military currently being waltzed-around and/or quite purposefully screwed out of voting for leaders WHOM ARE BEST for America (as before),...were all such detailed nepotism & connivances GOOD or BAD for: "America's Finest"?

Will those whom actually sacrifice THEIR LIVES for our Voting Priviledge be permitted voting, also?

Angry clerical errors

And, the idea that any election board or county clerk HAD to hold up ballots because court cases were deciding who was to be listed - is more than nonsense.

If the candidate did not qualify by any means by the cut-off date, then the damn ballots get printed and must be delivered on time as required under the law.

I worked in city government for 9 years of my career, and the good ole "clerical error" was a time-honored euphemism for changing the outcome by changing the process outside the system.
