I don't know know how many gardeners there are among us, But even if your not this will work.
get a 1 gallon empty paint can with lid. Punch a 1/2 to 1 inch hole in bottom of can
Also put a couple sheet metal screws in bottom of can, Make sure the screws can hold 10 to 15 lbs of weight.
Fill it with top soil or Dirt. Put a Tomato seed in the top and water.
When plant starts to grow and gets to be about 4 or 5 inchs out of the top of the can, put a 1 to 1-1/2 inch hole in the lid and feed the plant threw the hole, secure the lid in place.
Hang the paint can upside down from the sheet metal screws in a area that has sun/shade ( like from a branch of a tree.) (not inside) The flowers need bees to pollinate. The plant will grow down and will use all the water and nutrients you put in, because your putting them right on the roots.
Make sure the lid is secured and will not come off and the hole in the lid is big enough for the stalk when the plant is mature.

A couple notes
Catch rain water in some old cooler and use that water to water plant. Tap water has chlorine in it.
Use some duct tape on lid hole to take up gap until plant stalk gets bigger.
