PHO
When I got married, me and wife to be decided to get married in Hawaii. We took all the money that we would have spent on a party hear and spent it on us in Hawaii. We got there and I rented a tucks and she rented a dress, we went to the Hawaiian priest and did all the paper work, and then he says " what name would you like on the license?" What do you mean, I says. He said in Hawaii you can keep your last name, take the other persons last name, use both names or just make up a new one. I told him we would talk about it on the way. It was about a hour drive to the small Island we were getting married on. On the way there we decided to take her last name instead of her taking my last name.
We did all the paper work and he did the wedding first in Hawaiian and then in English.
when we got home everyone was dumb founded. "YOU DID WHAT?"
My work HR had a shit fit, The Drivers license place wouldn't give me a drivers license until I went threw a sgt, capt, and finally a Maj. Social Security office didn't even blink, Hear, Next. My retirement fund had to have an explanation. My mother didn't understand but she says, whatever you want, I never told my dad, My brothers just looked at me funny. My friends said they were still going to call me by my 'Maiden' name. The utility companies didn't understand at all, putting a new name on a utility bill is a new customer and what happened to the old customer, checks don't work, credit cards are junk.
Man what a mess.
Women don't have this much problems.

I was always under the impression that Birth Certificates and the name associated with SSN.s were the only form of true ID which is required to get other ID, such as passports, drivers license, etc etc Byrd to Willitt or vise versa dont make much sense......Yes we are questioning you

Bob
My last name now is Willett, My maiden name is BYRD. Willett is my wifes last name.
I had to have the state of Hawaii marriage certificate to get a new SS card, Birth certificate wouldn't change.
The drivers license place at first wouldn't give me a new license in my married name, He said I was trying to change there rules? After I went up the chain of command the Maj. finally said theres nothing wrong with this, It's legal, and I got my lic.
And You can question all you like, Ive explained this about 500 times sence I got married, You'll just be one more.
Most people think two things when I tell them this,
It's dumb and then what are you trying to hide?
People can think whatever they wish and I'm not hiding anything.

Ron,

Your Byrd kin from Virginia origianally?

Also....why the hell would you do such a thing? What were you drinkin' at the time? When you got divorced, why not go back to Byrd?
