Default What was the toughest military school

You ever attended?? Physically and mentally. For me it was Artillery Officers Candidate School. I have been to Ranger School, Jump School, Special Forces Officers Course, Pathfinder, Demolition School, Jumpmaster Course and a few others that were Classified as to title and content. None of them compared with my 6 months at Robinson Barracks at Fort Sill Oklahoma. I started OCS in September 1966 and of the original 130+ we graduated 27 of us in 6 months, total class of 44. The last guy to be kicked out did so after walking across the stage at graduation. He wore a pair of bright yellow socks with his Greens. I graduated from OCS number 3 in the class in Gunnery, number 1 in Observed Fire (shooters award) and proudly carried the title of Jark King for Class 7-67. Was commissioned as a 2LT on 7 march 1967, I had to get my parents permission to get married the next week because I wasn't 21 yet.

Talking

First 4 hours at jump school , the first day, seemed tough to me. Course I had been out drinking beer all night with a sweet young thing from Phenix City who just loved to get nakked in the sawdust pits . The Black Hat was not at all impressed when my projectile vomiting hit his boots after my third try at the squat thrusts in the PT test. I think they ripped off my buttons , broke my sword and escorted me off post

Default No Tough Schools

Just BCT and AIT for me,but I`m reminded of the time spent in Germany and France. All summer we would work pretty hard on various engr. projects, but the winters were hell.Soldier,soldier,soldier.Spit and polish soldier.Other than the two annual 'field problems',which consisted of bridging the Rhien w/pontoons,and playing Infantry games at Baumholder,it was all classroom.Hell to stay awake.(particularly w/a Cognac hangover!)

Do you remember when they tried to teach backing up a 21/2 ton with a trailer. You were suppose to put it in low reverse gear lock the throttle and step out onto the running boards steering with your right hand only. Well this dumbass tripped as I was climbing onto the running board. Fell flat on my ass. Got to watch the truck jackknife from a totally different angle. The instructors kept telling me I was going to end up in cook school

Default Bob

I remember that a 2.5 ton with a trailer was next to impossible for me to back up. When I went over to Nam they put me in a tractor trailer company. Where did you go to a truck driving school and what did you do after that? [no kidding I got recycled back one week for rolling down a hill, used the wrong gear.]

A different slant on this Training/School thing would be to know that the toughest training is that which leaves one ill prepared for the realities of war, in their mundane and vulgar expressions; or bored during the process of the school itself. The idea to me, should be not to train to the equivalent "grueling" degree of a Tri-Athelete, or Marching Band in step, or to "polish off" with James Bond gadgets and such .... but to know what to expect and to be equipped to meet the match of war and to make a war ... your way. I bet a whole buncha people would like doOvers on the school/training bit.

Jungle servival school in P.I. One week with just a knife and 1lb of rice. and the cloths on your back lucky they gave us a native guide for every three men to teach us what to eat and how to watch out for snakes. I at my rice the first 2 days then ate bullheads, a sort of crawfish, snake, monkey, and some sort of roots, and drank water from a big vine, but I don't remember squat about what to look for anymore. but I thought I knew it all then.

Default I surrender

I think Truck driving school is the winner. An infected paper cut is really bad, especially if it swells and does not allow you to properly pick your nose while driving. Then you get bored and fall asleep and the next thing you know is your greetin St. Peter. Yep Truck Driving School is it.
