Crimeans breaking military equipment not to go to war against Ukraine.

Illegally mobilized residents of temporarily occupied Crimea are breaking Russia’s military hardware in order not to participate in the war on Ukraine.
That’s according to the President’s Representation for Crimea, Ukrinform reports.

"According to information from open sources, illegally mobilized residents of occupied Crimea are breaking military equipment in order not to go to war against Ukraine," the report reads.

Commenting on the public mood on the peninsula, the Representation said that the families of illegally drafted men are appealing en masse to the Russian Ministry of Defense over rights violations. As noted, this is about commanders refusing to ensure timely rotations and vacations, while short-term leaves are offered for a $1,000 bribe.

"Russia’s soldiers are beginning to speak out: a small interview appeared in open sources in which the contractor with the invasion force complained that almost a year into the ‘special military operation’ no one from his company was given leave because ‘they either do not live to see it or are in the hospital,’” added in the Representation.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the occupiers started in Simferopol a massive campaign to collect blood due to significant war casualties.

Large number of civilian casualties and damage to health care and educational facilities in Ukraine is caused by Russia's indiscriminate use of artillery and other weapons systems.
That’s according to an update by Britain’s Ministry of Defense, referring to the country’s intelligence, Ukrinform reports.

It is noted that as of February 13, 2023, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recorded 18,955 civilian casualties since the outset of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Among them, 7,199 were killed and 11,756 were wounded. A total of 697 civilian casualties were recorded in January 2023.

OHCHR said they believe the actual numbers are much higher. According to another independent assessment, more than 16,000 civilians are believed to have been killed.

As of January 2023, violence continued along a 1,200 km-long frontline, but was focused mainly on Donetsk, Luhansk, and Zaporizhia regions.

Throughout January, there was “a very high intensity, and worsening trend, of damage being inflicted to both medical and educational facilities.”

According to British intelligence, these incidents and consequent civilian casualties are likely to be largely due to Russia's indiscriminate use of artillery and other area weapon systems.

The previous update by British intelligence reported that Russia’s military losses as result of the ongoing offensive in the east, especially in Bakhmut and Vuhledar, remain high.

Russian troops attacked Ukraine’s Kherson region 58 times in the past day, killing at least two civilians.
That’s according to the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Ukrinform reports.

According to officials, the invaders hit peaceful settlements employing multiple rocket launchers, mortars, artillery, tanks, and drones. A missile attack was also carried out.

The Russian army attacked Kherson six times, damaging some residential buildings.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, referring to the General Staff, on February 20, Russian invasion troops launched six missile strikes and 28 air strikes on the civilian infrastructure of Donetsk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson regions, as well as 86 attacks involving MLR systems.

From February 24, 2022 to February 21, 2023, Ukraine’s Defense Forces eliminated nearly 144,440 Russian invaders, including 760 in the last 24 hours.
That’s according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Ukrinform reports.

Also, as of February 21, Ukrainian defenders destroyed 3,326 Russian main battle tanks (including 10 in the past day), 6,562 (+9) armored combat vehicles, 2,338 (+4) artillery systems, 471 (+0) multiple rocket launch systems, 243 (+0) anti-aircraft systems, 299 (+0) warplanes, 287 (+0) helicopters, 2,023 (+5) tactical drones, 873 (+0) cruise missiles, 18 (+0) warships/cutters, 5,210 (+1) trucks and tankers, and 226 (+1) units of specialized equipment.

The latest data on enemy losses are being verified.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on February 20, Ukraine’s Army repelled enemy attacks in the areas of 11 settlements in Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk regions.

Note: Poland and Italy have similar views on the situation in Ukraine and they plan to continue arms deliveries to the country.
The prime ministers of Poland and Italy, Mateusz Morawiecki and Giorgia Meloni, stated this at a joint press conference in Warsaw, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Morawiecki stressed that the Polish and Italian governments have an identical view of the situation in Ukraine.

"Together we supply weapons. We talked about further arms deliveries to Ukraine, so that peace can be established as soon as possible,” Morawiecki emphasized.

The Polish prime minister noted that in order to overcome the global energy and economic crises and reduce inflation, it is necessary for Ukraine to defeat Russia with the support of the countries of the free world.

In turn, Meloni stressed that Ukraine can continue to count on Italy. She also said that Italy from the very beginning of the invasion had provided Ukraine with financial, military and humanitarian aid and pledged to continue this support.

“We have been and will be on Ukraine's side, and Poland can also count on our support," she said, thanking Poland "for the exceptional work the country is doing for Ukraine”.

As reported, ahead of her visit to Ukraine, Meloni had a phone conversation with U.S. President Biden, who arrived in Poland following his trip to Kyiv. According to the Italian Prime Minister's Office, Biden and Meloni discussed the coordination of efforts to support Ukraine in the security, economic and humanitarian sectors.

Giorgia Meloni plans to visit Kyiv ahead of February 24, the one-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale.

White House report:

U.S. President Joe Biden spoke with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the phone following his trip to Kyiv.
“President Biden spoke with Italian Prime Minister Meloni tonight on the phone following the President’s trip to Ukraine and ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to Ukraine,” the White House said.

It is noted that the two leaders discussed their ongoing close coordination on the issue of support for Ukraine, including security, economic, and humanitarian assistance.

The White House said that President Biden looks forward to welcoming Prime Minister Meloni to Washington D.C. “when their schedules align.”

As reported by Ukrinform, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni plans to visit Kyiv ahead of February 24, the one-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale. On Monday, February 20, she met with President Andrzej Duda in Warsaw.

This year, the Netherlands will send another 230 military instructors to Germany to train Ukrainian soldiers.

This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to NOS.

"The Dutch government will send another 230 military to Germany to train Ukrainians this year. Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Wopke Hoekstra, Minister of Defense Kajsa Ollongren and Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Liesje Schreinemacher wrote to the House of Representatives that this year they will contribute to the training of a total of 30,000 Ukrainian soldiers," the report says.

The first 30 Dutch military instructors will arrive in April and May for four weeks, another 200 in August and September for six weeks.

In addition, Dutch military personnel remain involved in the training of Ukrainians in Great Britain throughout the year.

"Given the large-scale mobilization in Russia, the training of the Ukrainian military is important for Ukrainian stability," the Dutch ministers emphasized.

As reported by Ukrinform, the military aid of the Netherlands to Ukraine exceeded EUR 1 billion. In 2023, the Netherlands plans to allocate EUR 2.5 billion in support of Ukraine.

The European Union continues to discuss a widely supported 10th round of sanctions against Russia, and its final approval is possible by the end of this week.

“Today, we have been discussing the 10th package of sanctions that, as High-Representative and [with] the [European] Commission, together, we have presented as a regulation for the Council to approve. We are on the way to approving it, and I think it is going to be approved during the next hours, in the next days - before 24 [February], in any case. The 10th package of sanctions will be approved by written procedure before 24 [February]. The obstacles that still remain will be overcome,” EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said following the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

He added that the commitment was made by the foreign ministers of all EU member states.

“There was strong support across the room for the package, and I insist, I am confident that we will be able to adopt it before the end of the week. In the end, it is the Council who approves the sanctions, and this requires unanimity,” Borrell said.

Borrell expressed his belief that the European sanctions work and impact severely the Russian economy. This, in particular, concerns the indicators of public deficit, trade deficit, and the reduction in revenues coming from selling hydrocarbons which have always been the basis of the Russian economy. All of these indicators are currently "in a very bad shape" although last year was a good year for Russia due to the sale of hydrocarbons in a moment where the energy prices "were rocketing."

“But this is over. We have gotten rid of our dependency on Russia’s hydrocarbons and the prices are going down. Russia is selling its oil at $40 a barrel – half the price of the Brent in international markets… So, have a look at these three parameters – trade, [public] deficit and income from hydrocarbons – and you will see how much the sanctions are affecting the Russian capacity to continue financing the war,” the EU High Representative noted.

He also said that EU foreign ministers discussed the mechanism and procedures for bringing those responsible for the war to justice.

“We have this vote at the UN General Assembly this week. Together with Ukraine and our G7 partners, we are conducting an intense outreach in order to ensure a broad support for the Resolution on UN Charter principles being put to vote at the General Assembly,” Borrell added.

On the day of the 9th anniversary of the beginning of the temporary occupation of the territory of Ukraine by Russia, UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly underscored that Crimea is part of Ukraine.
“Today marks 9 years since Russia illegally annexed Crimea and began the oppression of its people. We will soon mark a year since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine,” Cleverly posted on Twitter.

Crimea is Ukraine and we will not forget that, he noted.

The minister added that “Putin could stop this war at any time by withdrawing his troops.”

On February 20, 2014, Russian troops began the occupation of Crimea. Trucks without number plates and "little green men" – armed soldiers in unmarked uniforms – appeared on the peninsula. At the same time, irregular armed formations of mercenaries from among local residents led by officers of the Russian special services and armed forces were created and armed.

Already on March 16, on the occupied peninsula, Russia held a "referendum" on the status of Crimea, and two days later, on March 18, the so-called Agreement on the admission of the Republic of Crimea to the Russian Federation was signed in the Kremlin.

To date, all influential international organizations have recognized the occupation and annexation of the peninsula as illegal and condemned Russia's actions. In particular, nine UN resolutions on Crimea have been already adopted. Western countries imposed economic sanctions on the Russian Federation.

In the afternoon, the Russian army hit Zaporizhzhia suburbs with Iskander-K missiles.
"Today, the enemy attacked the suburbs of the regional center with Iskander-K missiles, according to preliminary data. A field near private houses was hit. A residential building and a car were damaged by the blast wave," the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration posted on Telegram.

Over the past day, the occupiers shelled civilian infrastructure in the area of Malynivka, Mala Tokmachka, Huliaypole, Zaliznychne, Charivne, Orikhiv, Olhivske, Novoandriivka, Bilohirya, Shcherbaky, Staroukrainka, Pavlivka, Novodanylivka, Stepove, and Kamyanske settlements.

More than 10,000 Ukrainian military recruits have gone through training in the United Kingdom under the leadership of the British Land Forces and the armed forces of international partners.

“So far, over 10,000 Ukrainians have gone through the training, which teaches them how to survive in a hostile environment, and includes weapon handling, marksmanship, field craft, first aid and law of armed conflict awareness,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine posted on Facebook.

Ukrainian recruits who will return to fight in Ukraine undergo the course of basic military training.

The UK-led programme trains and drill the Armed Forces of Ukraine using battle-proven British Army expertise, allowing them to accelerate their deployment, rebuild their forces, and scale up their resistance.

The recruits are being trained by instructors from the 1st Battalion Irish Guards, the UK’s Ranger Regiment, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Lithuania, Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands, Sweden, and Finland.

As reported, His Majesty King Charles III visited the training base of Ukrainian fighters in the south west of England.
