Planning for the ball

The combined RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall Air Force Ball committee have been hard at work planning for the upcoming ball September 11 in hangar 814 on RAF Mildenhall. According to 1st Lieutenant Timothy Gaydosh, 100th Maintenance Operations Squadron, committee co-chair, the committee has hosted an aircraft wash, bratwurst burn, and flag sales to help offset of the expense of the ball.
According to Gaydosh the committee has been aiming high for this year’s ball themed, “Building Partnerships: Past, Present and Future,” making sure to have plenty of entertainment and displays for all to enjoy. Some of the items lined up include a display from the 100th Bomb Group Museum at Thorpe Abbotts, Mildenhall Museum, and heritage aircraft.
The evening will include a sit down dinner with guest speaker General Ralph Jodice II followed by an evening of dancing with music from the USAFE Band.
Senior Master Sgt. Shane Sandlin, 100th Operation Support Squadron, committee co-chair, said that tickets for the ball should go on sale around August 1st and prices are yet to be determined. Sandlin added that Airmen should try to attend a ball because, “It’s part of our heritage and tradition.”
The ball will begin with cocktail/social hour at 1800 followed by dinner at 1900. The menu for the evening includes Kilin smoked salmon with pickled cucumber salad, topped with caper and lemon dressing for appetizer, pan fried supreme of chicken in calvados cream sauce with button onions and mushrooms for a main course, followed by a traditional Air Force Birthday cake for dessert. For all vegetarians, there will be the option to have Goat cheese and onion tart with sweet and sour beetroot for appetizer and Aubergine rolls filled with spiced couscous and feta cheese in a tomato and roasted pepper sauce for the main dish. All meals will also be served with potatoes and minted broad beans and peas along with dinner coffee.
