First song I can remember hearin that I LIKED was Battle of New Orleans.

Well in 1814 we took a little trip
Along with Col. Jackson
Down the mighty Missisip.
We took a little bacon
And we took a little beans
And we fought the bloody British
At the town a New Orleens.

Well
We
Fired our guns an the British kep a-comin,
There wasn't nigh as many as there was awhile ago.
We fired once more an they commensed a-runnin
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
An they ran through briers and they ran through the brambles
An they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
They ran so fast the hounds couldn't catch em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mecico.

Ole Hickory said we could take em by surprise
If we didn't fire our muskets til we looked em in the eyes.
Bout that time we seen the British come
An there musta been a hunert of em beatin on their drums.
They stepped so high an they made their bugles ring.
We stood behind our cotton bales an didn't say a thing.
We held our fire til we seen their faces well
Then we opened up our squirrel guns an really gave em...

Well we fired our guns an the British kep a-comin,
There wasn't nigh as many as there was awhile ago.
Fired once more an the British commensed a-running
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
An they ran through the briers and they ran through the brambles
An they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
Ran so fast the hounds couldn't catch em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

We fired our cannon til the barrel melted down,
So we grabbed an alligator an we fought another round.
We filled his head with cannonballs an powdered his behind
And when we set the powder off the 'gater lost his mind!

We fired our guns...

Wish I could remember how that old song went.

Bismarck? What?s that? :cd: Last I heard the German Imperial High Seas fleet was going to come out and try to cause great havoc somewhere in the North Sea near Jutland. Did I miss something?

Thumbs up

?We hit the decks a running and spun the guns around?

Good stuff Lt. John, good stuff especially the bit about shells as big as trees. True story.

As a kid, I can remember Bill Haley and the Comets' "Rock Around the Clock." I can maybe even earlier remember my parents playing 'their' song, "Forever and Ever," but I don't remember who that featured.

My old man was a musician(and a drunk),so I had the pleasure of hearing the old HI-FI blast out Sing Sing Sing, and similar tunes almost daily at 0200.
Hated it at the time, for obvious reasons, but today I love early jazz...Go figure.

Irene Goodnight...one of the rare times I was with myMother...can remember her singingalong with the radio...she had a beautiful voice and sang with big bands in her early years...

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Last saturday night I got married
Me and my love settled down
Now me and my love are parted
I'm gonna take another stroll downtown

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Sometimes I live in the country
Sometimes I live in the town
Sometimes I have a great notion
To jump In the river and drown

Irene goodnight, Irene good night
Good night Irene, good night Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Ramblin' stop your gamblin'
Stop stayin' out late at night
Go home to your wife and your family
Sit down by the fireside bright

Irene goodnight, Irene good night
Good night Irene, good night Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Irene goodnight, Irene good night
Good night Irene, good night Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Default I don't

remember the song(s) so much as I do the radio program..

Early 50's and Mom & Dad used to love to tune into the "Hit Parade" with Snooky Lanson, Rosemary Clooney and I forget all the others........but there were a lot of them.........we listened on the radio for a few years and then in 1956 we got our first black & white TV and got to watch them instead of just listen!

I can still remember our first color tv! We watch the men land on the moon. That was such big deal at our house as so many others across the country.
Saturdays were outside with the radio or the portable turntable. Sundays were baths, early dinner and watching The Wonderful World of Disney followed by Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. Then off to bed before the sun even set.
Heck trying to get my kids to bed before 11PM is a real trial!

I miss the wonder and specialness of TV shows and how radio was such an integral part of our lives.
