American prisoners of war who were tortured in Iraq are finding out they have fewer legal rights than Iraqi prisoners later mistreated in the same place by American jailers.


For abused Iraqis, Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld has called for fair compensation(it's on the record, check it out if you don't believe me). What a court considers fair could be determined in a lawsuit filed against him by two human rights groups representing eight men believed tortured in Iraq and Afghanistan by U.S. troops.


Well guess what? In contrast, because of George Bush and his administration, 17 American airmen held prisoner in Iraq are getting nothing. They were shot down in the 1991 Gulf War, captured and inhumanly abused in Saddam Hussein's prisons. A federal judge initially awarded them $959 million from Saddam's Iraqi government.


The Bush administration appealed this decision in the U.S. Court of Appeals and argued that the new regime in Iraq wasn't responsible, doesn't sponsor terrorism and shouldn't have to pay. The conservative dominated U.S. appeals court agreed.


Can you believe that shit? Here we can send $80 billion, and then another $87 billion later to Iraq for THEIR improvements to their infrastructure; ie....hospitals, water treatment plants, power plants, roads and schools for God's sakes. But.........Bush and his cronies won't allow the American soldiers and Airmen (and women) any compensation that they rightfully won in a Court of Law!


The fact remains that these U.S. troops were illegally tortured while helping liberate Kuwait from the rapists and looters from Baghdad.


It is outrageous that what the Bush administration themselves call "unlawful combatants" of outlaw regimes can be compensated for being roughed up in jail, while the heroes of the free world who were captured while fighting to enforce a U.N. resolution and liberate Kuwait cannot.


These pilots should get fair compensation, either from Iraq's oil profits or from Congress itself. But..................NOT according to the Bush administration my friends.


Just one more example of their unrelenting and outrageous abandonment and mistreatment of our troops and veterans.
The folks in Bushs' administration feel the Iraqis' should be "compensated" for the treatment received at the hands of Americans, but NOT the Americans mistreated at the hands of the Iraqis'?????

Now that's what I call REAL "support of the troops" alright!

They should be run out of Washington on a freakin RAIL!

In the aftermath of World War I, President Wilson warned against the reparations demanded by the greedy and vindictive French, Italians and Brits stating they only guaranteed another war. He was right and World War II was on the plate the moment he was ignored. Plus the grinding poverty these reparations caused gave a strong foothold to the then fledgling communists and let another evil genie out of the bottle that is still reaping a grim harvest to this day. US WWII Vets/former POWs have been trying to get reparations from Japan and Germany for decades but to no avail. No doubt the Korean and Vietnam Veterans have a case but I know of no litigation that is pending. The GWI abused former POWs probably have a case as well but will be standing in a long, long, line of litigants that include Iran, Kuwait, the Kurds, the Shiites, France, Germany, and Russia just to name a few. So I suppose Bush could ignore the sage advice given by Wilson and let the litigation storm loose. Or maybe the next US Pres will be inclined to litigate Iraq into oblivion but he or she would have to totally ignore historical realities and known results. I think Saddam Hussein said it best when he lamented, ?The line of those waiting to pick my bones clean is endless?. He is gone now but the line isn?t, not by a long shot.
