Israel
Will there be an UN peacekeeping force in Israel soon?
My opinion is no, I think the Israeli will not allow it.

Will there be a force?
Yes, that's what the UN does. Is it a good idea? No Will the US be involved? The world/UN loves to put US in no-win situations.

Win?
"peace is the point don't you agree"
No. The issues have to be resolved by the people there or there will be no peace. Peace cannot be imposed by the UN or any outside group. What we have in Ireland, Korea, a least one Mediterranean island and other places throughout the world is not peace. There is no resolution to the conflicts. Maybe "no-win" was the wrong term. How about lose/lose? Damned if you do, damned if you don't? Which countries want to send their troups into a conflict where their peacekeepers are targets? People from the UN/Europe have already been killed there for who they were, not out of any confusion that they were the enemy. Our children will go if our government sends them. Personal Note: Darrel was stationed in the Netherlands from June 1980-June 1983. He liked it. Joy

I Think a "lot" will send troops, respite the fact that their soldiers may become targets. So you were stationed in the Netherlands, where was that? Soesterberg?

Two European observers have been shot and killed by gunfire in the West Bank.
One of the dead was Turkish and the other believed to be Swiss. Another observer was slightly injured in the incident on a road used mainly by Jewish settlers near Halhoul, just north of Hebron. Israeli radio said the unarmed observers, from the Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH), died when their car came under fire on a road north of the flashpoint town from Palestinian gunmen who mistook them for settlers. But a senior member of the observer force told the BBC they were travelling in a clearly marked vehicle and that it appeared they had been caught in crossfire. The TIPH was set up under a 1997 agreement dividing Hebron into Palestinian and Israeli-controlled zones, in the wake of an attack by an Israeli settler on a holy site in 1994 which killed 29 Palestinians. The body consists of several dozen observers from Norway, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Sweden and Switzerland. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/wor...00/1895463.stm The US voted against UN peacekeepers from going there in March 2001. Sorry, Darrel's at work. Joy |

It's like Korea, Northern Ireland, etc. . . .
The Best comparisons in the modern world is:
Korea, Northern Ireland, The Balkan States. I think that there is much more of a chance of completely stablizing the Korean situation, because it is one divided by politics ie. Germany during the Cold War. The problems in the middle east and in Israel goes back thousands of years. The Balkan states problems will exist for another 1,000 years or more and the same in Ireland unless England totally pulls out of Northern Ireland and I don't see that happening. If communism in North Korea came to end as it did in the USSR and Eastern Europe it would be easy to reunite Korea. Anyway such is my opinion. Keith |

Take the hardliners from both sides out into the desert armed with knives. Kill the survivors.
I was stationed at Schinnen right outside of Massricht. Darrel
