Women Veterans Remember Vietnam

Washington - Arlene Adams-Cataldo of Bay Shore and Edie McCoy Meeks of
Beacon, N.Y., first met at the Vietnam Women's Memorial here three
years ago. They only talk a couple of times a year, and each has a
hard time remembering the other's last name. But the two women have
forged a friendship based on the one thing they have most in common -
the circumstances of war.

"We never met in 'Nam, but I feel we have known each other all our
lives," Adams-Cataldo said yesterday, standing near the memorial, a
bronze statue of three nurses trying to save a dying American soldier,
near the Vietnam Memorial wall.

"This is where we talk about all of our soul matters," said Meeks, 59.
"We don't meet for a year and [yet it's like there wasn't anything in
between."
