Super Bowl Toilet Bowl report!
SAN DIEGO, 8:52 p.m. PST January 26, 2003 - While Qualcomm Stadium was packed for the Super Bowl, many fans watching at home were possibly packing their bathrooms after the first half.
Water closet usage spiked by 3.5 percent during the game's halftime show, said Tedi Jackson of the San Diego Water Department. About 206 million gallons of water flowed to local homes and businesses during the halftime show, compared to 199 million gallons during the first half of the game. Other than the sudden rise at halftime, Jackson said Super Bowl Sunday was "a normal operating day for us." The American Waterworks Association says the average toilet uses 3.5 gallons to flush. If the 7 million gallons of additional water was from people using the bathroom, that would amount to 2 million toilets flushing during halftime. According to urban legend, some city waterworks went dry during halftime of earlier Super Bowls because too many toilets flushed simultaneously. |
