Lest We Forget - Semper Fi
17 April 2006
Following article in response to a story read on the website listed below - Thought that it might be of interest.. http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniont...1n17tonia.html LEST WE FORGET - SEMPER FI ?I call her my nurse, my doctor, my wife, my everything!? Quote - Master Sergeant Kenneth Sargent, United States Marine Corps This Marine Corps Master Sergeant was referring to his wife Tonia who has stood by his side ever since he returned home from the Middle East, gravely wounded, some 20 months ago. (Then) Gunnery Sergeant Sargent was shot through the head and severely wounded in Iraq, suffering brain damage that would have left any lesser man totally and permanently spent! But not this warrior, especially, not if his wife of many years had anything to say about it. Nursing him back from what could have been a fatal wound, Tonia Sargent stood by his side through his most trying and perilous times. Not only that, she has taken on the arduous task of working two jobs, raising two teenage daughters, and championing the cause of other wounded troopers from all services! ?That is some lady!? Even though extensively occupied with nursing back to health her brain damaged husband, she has also tackled the challenge, through literally hundreds of hours of phone calls and e-mailings directly from her husband?s bedside, of taking on the system, headlong! Tonia and her wounded marine spouse will soon dedicate a brand-new, 21-suite home in Palo Alto. A bastion of humanity and patriotic appreciation that will help to temporarily house the families of other wounded service personnel, military retirees, and their families as well. And this to keep them close to their honored loved ones while they are receiving treatment at a VA or military hospital far away from home! Our military wives and families of today may not be the rugged ?Rosie the Riveter? types of times past, but they can surely match Old Rosie's Dedication, her guts and her patriotism, pound for pound, on any playing field (or battlefield) in the world! ?Well done Tonia, and all the other military wives and families out there. You too, deserve to be numbered among America?s finest!? ERGO VERITAS
