No, this diatribe has nothing to do with religion, as the "Church" in question here had Senate affiliations and not Papal ones! Back on 3 August 1977, a report was issued by the U.S. Senate, Select Committee On Intelligence, Subcommittee On Health and Scientific Research. "The Following Was The Purpose For These Hearings, And Some of The
[Mostly Ignored] Results To Come Out Of Them!"

Some here-in have asked if MK ULTRA, the CIA and Army's Top-Secret Program of Research Into Behavioral Modification, really existed? Or if it was naught but an illusion contrived within an overly fertile, science fiction oriented mentality? One that was later to be magnified within the movies?

"YEAH MAN, THIS DOMESTIC ATROCITY [like the Tuskegee Project] WAS THE REAL THING!!"

During the [so-called] Cold War, [1955-1967 or so], some [overly zealous] people pulled out all stops and abandoned sanity in the name of medical and military science. Paranoia became the rule of thumb, and even justified fear was magnified into [nearly] all out, global pandemonium! "The world had indeed arrived at the very doorstep of nuclear oblivion!!"

Sometime before this historically tumultuous period, however, a Swiss Doctor by the name of Hoffman [Sandoz Labs], accidentally discovered that an ergot of rye, "Lysergic Acid Diethylamide [LSD]", could bring about an altered state of mind. One conducive to the "Spy v Spy" mentality of that era!

It was rumored that this discovery was eventually utilized by both sides of the "Cold War Conflict" to interrogate suspected enemy operatives, and in the process of evaluation, that even far more damaging compounds like Curare and Benzlate etc. were incorporated into this matrix of madness!

When word eventually leaked out, as it always does, that the "Super Powers" were invading each other's minds, and that this practice had not been limited to mental attacks against the "Red Menace" alone, great concern began to mount here on the "Home Front!" As such, hearings were held to determine just how far this lunacy had progressed, and to delve into reports that our own medical and scientific people had indeed been attacking the brains of collective America! "Alas, it was to prove to be oh so true!"

At a point in time when we were ethically attacking the rest of the world for it's "Human Rights and Dignity Violations", we ourselves were at the controls of our own [seemingly] run-away train!

"Now, don't get me wrong!" I have little if any problem with our gallant intelligence community keeping our nation safe and secure through the use methods such as these. It is, however, when these James Bond types turn their skills inward, against our very own people, that I begin to feel my skin crawl! Granted, with our open border policy, one is bound to attract an element of danger, but who draws the line between that danger and the onset of the "Age of Big Brother?"

Getting back [finally] to the Church Senate Hearings of a quarter century ago [1977], held by the Select Committee on Intelligence, the following are but a few excerpts from the
document that it generated. This too, in keeping with some of my past posts on the subject, just might help to shed further light upon the travesty of experimentation that was conducted upon the unwitting, as well as the lack of any affirmative movement by those with a mandate to correct this long-standing wrong! Not just the rampant use by [any] government of dangerous hallucinogenics, mind you, but rather the criminal attempts of same to cover-up such activities, even when they were conducted upon U.S. Military Personnel!

At the time of this Senate Report, government research into the effects of drugs [and even
alcohol] had been rampant. As a matter of fact, the Senate Report claimed that at least 17 sub-projects, possibly involving humans, had been undertaken, 14 that definitely involved [so-called] human volunteers were conducted, and 19 more projects that "Probably" involved unwitting humanity had been performed! Since that time, of course, we have learned that this was but the tip of the malignant medical iceberg!

At this point, let me quote directly from this Senate Report and see how this sets with your sense of morality!

QUOTE- "Financial disbursement records for the period between 1960 and 1964, for 76 of the 149 MK ULTRA Sub-projects, had been recovered from the "Office of Finance [CIA]" and were made available to the "Church Committee", as well as to Senate investigators in August or September of 1975."

"The 1963 Inspector General Report on MKULTRA, that was made available to both the Church Committee and Senator Kennedy's Sub-Committee, mentioned (both) electric shock and harassment substances [drugs - pp 4, 16]; COVERT TESTING OF UNWITTING U.S. CITIZENS [pp. 7, 10-12], and the search for new [hallucinogenic etc] materials through arrangements with specialists [United States included] at universities, pharmaceutical houses, hospitals, state and federal institutions, private research organizations, and the technical services division of the Central Intelligence Agency!"

In other words, everybody [almost] who was anybody, stood in line to get in on the show!
This, of course, pretty well explains why the government and it's plethora of bureaucracies
[VA included in my opinion], want this maniacal debacle kept secret! "BIG AND POWERFUL $$$$ AMERICAN HEADS COULD DEFINITELY TUMBLE!!" [Protectionism at its finest perhaps?]

If you doubt the above "Military-Government Mindset" on this "Protect The SOBs At Any Cost Scenario", then let me read further from page #7, Church Senate Report:

QUOTE: "I Believe That We [government] All Have A Moral Obligation To These Researchers And Institutions To Protect Them From Any Unjustified Embarrassment Or Damage To Their Reputations Which Revelation Of Their Identities Might Bring!"

"In addition, we [government again] have a legal obligation under the 'Privacy Act' not to publicly disclose the names of the individual researchers without their consent!"

Apparently, those who sought [and still seek] to hide this criminal shame, are concerned more with the [so-called] rights of the beast than they are with the ultimate fate, health and well-being of the hapless, unwitting, uniformed victims of this particular "Domestic Atrocity!"

For the record, MK ULTRA was indeed real, the protectionism was real, the pain and anguish of the victims was real, the lasting damage was real, and most of all, the conspiracy [for lack of a better word] of silence associated with this "Act From Hell", as well as the ongoing cover-up, are also quite real! "As real, in fact, as is the attempts of some to bury this issue and its victims!!"

The following are the remarks that were made to Admiral Stanfield Turner (CIA), by Senator Kennedy, during the Church Senate Hearings of 1977 on the use of volunteers (and conscripts) in Cold-War, Army/CIA hallucinogenic experimentation! This same view was echoed by many upon this Senate panel as concerns MK ULTRA. If these Senators had known some 25 years ago that this issue and those so abused, would still be treated in such an horrendous fashion by those in whom they placed their trust, I can not help but wonder what their reaction would be?!

Granted. it happened many years ago, but what we are basically talking about is an activity that took place in the country that involved the perversion and corruption of many of our outstanding research centers in 'THIS' country, with CIA funds, where some of our top researchers were unwittingly involved in research sponsored by the AGENCY (CIA) in which they (supposedly) had no knowledge of the background or support for.

Much of it (experimentation) was done with American citizens who were completely unknowing
in terms of taking various drugs, and there are perhaps, any number of Americans who are walking around today on the east or west coast who were given drugs, with all the kinds of physical and psychological damage that can be caused. We have gone over that in very careful detail, and it is significant and severe indeed.

I do not know what could be done in a less democratic country that would be more alien to our
own traditions than was really done in this narrow area, and as you give this report to the Committee, I would like to get some sense of your own concerns about this type of activity, and how you react, having assumed this important responsibility with the confidence of President Carter, and the overwhelming support, obviously, of the Congress, under this set if circumstances.

I did not get much of a feeling in reviewing your statement here this morning of the kind of
abhorrence to this type of past activity which I think the American people would certainly deplore and which I believe that you do too, but could you comment upon that question, and also perhaps give us what ideas you have to "Insure that it (experimentation) can not happen again!" (End Quote)

BUT HAPPEN AGAIN IT HAS, OVER AND OVER!

?Testing and use of chemical and biological agents by the intelligence community, CIA and Army alike?

?Research and development programs to find materials which could be used to alter human behavior were initiated in the late 1940 and early 1950s. These experimental programs originally included testing of drugs involving witting human subjects, and culminating in tests using unwitting, non-volunteer human subjects (a blatant violation of informed consent). These tests were designed to determine the potential effects of
chemical or biological agents when used operationally against individuals who were -
UNAWARE THAT THEY HAD RECEIVED A DRUG!?

?The testing programs were considered highly sensitive by the intelligence agencies administering them. Few people, even within the agencies (themselves), knew of the programs and there is no evidence (?) that either the Executive Branch or Congress were ever informed of them!? (Why then, I ask you, are those who invented these ghastly programs still being protected at the expense of the victims?)

The highly compartmented nature of these programs may be explained in part by an observation made by the CIA Inspector General, that, ?The knowledge that the Agency is engaging in unethical and illicit activities could have serious repercussions in political and diplomatic circles!? (In other words, these people knew that what they were doing was criminally wrong, but did it anyway!)

?The research and development program, and in particular the covert testing programs, resulted in massive abridgments of the rights of American citizens, sometimes with tragic consequences! The deaths of (at least) two Americans can be attributed to these programs; other participants in the testing-programs may still suffer from the residual effects!?

?While some controlled testing of these substances might be defended, the nature of the tests (MK ULTRA), their scale and the fact that they were continued for years after the danger of surreptitious administration of LSD (etc) to unwitting individuals was known, demonstrates even a fundamental disregard for the value of human life!?

So there you have it again! The vested ?Powers That Be? within the Army and CIA etc. knew all along that what they were doing was wrong, dangerous and potentially lethal, yet this stopped them not! ?Now is it any wonder why the VA and DoD still fight to deny such claims for benefits!?

?This is, in my opinion, Legalized murder and/or mayhem!!?
