And then there was the “Good ship Lully pop” and my era of VN service the lyrics went “I’m a looser and not what I appear to be” alas, my heart throb at the time. Got names?

Of all the love I have won or have lost
There is one love I should
never have crossed.
He was a boy in a million, my friend,
I should have known he would win in the end.
I'm a loser
And I lost someone who's near to me.
I'm a loser
And I'm not what I appear to be.
Although I laugh and I act like a clown,
Beneath this mask I am wearing a frown.
My tears are falling like rain from the sky,
Is it for him or myself that I cry ?

I'm a loser
And I lost someone who's near to me.
I'm a loser
And I'm not what I appear to be.
I'm a loser
And I lost someone who's near to me.
I'm a loser
And I'm not what I appear to be.
What have I done to deserve such a fate ?
I realise I have left it too late
And so it's true pride comes before a fall,
I'm telling you so that you won't lose all.
I'm a loser
And I lost someone who's near to me.
I'm a loser
And I'm not what I appear to be.
I'm a loser.

Scamper,

I just picked up on it due to the circumstance of my musical tastes at that time.

I listened to the mainstream stuff like everyone, and I enjoyed Marianne's voice and style.

At the risk of being called names, I'll admit that I also listened to Joan Baez and Buffy Sainte-Marie.

There's just no accounting for some people's tastes!

Yes Steve, emotional times, serious times. “This little bird….. Etc,” I recall as well. Going to war doesn’t necessarily mean that ya kill anything that doesn’t fuck or loose ones grounding strap and come here to brag about it. No, I don’t think so. Emotional stuff , war is. You bet it is.

I have the cds of Joan Baez singing early Bob Dylan. It is one of my favorites. "Love is just a four letter word" Artichoke is not. Hey you guys knocking artichokes, I raise them of the Jerusalem type which is more like a potato than a thistle. Rather I planted them and they come up every year. I have a mess or two every winter.

Top notch stuff. Doc sent Deb and I tunips for Christmas.....man o' man were they good eatin'.

Did anyone know that one of the Dead End Kids ended up as "Munson" the cab driver on "All in the Family"? Well....he did. Steve...which one and a picture of him as a Kid and as Bert Munson please!

Even though I didn't care for the smug attitude of the anti-war types back in the 60's and 70's....I still loved Gracie Slick, Joan Baez, and all those others. Still listen to them. Didn't have to buy into what they were sayin' just enjoyed the music.

Scamp,

That quote wasn't by Wallace Beery. It was from "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" and was spoken by Alfonso Bedoya. The correct quote is: 'Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges! I don't have to show you any stinkin' badges!'

Packy,

That would be William (Billy) Halop.

He was also in ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES with Cagney.

Haven't been able to find a pic of "Bert", but here's Billy as a Dead End Kid (Leo Gorcey on the extreme right):
