Officials propose changing red-cockaded woodpecker from 'endangered' to 'threatened'

Longstanding efforts to foster survival of the red-cockaded woodpecker have succeeded to the point that federal officials propose changing its status from "endangered" to "threatened," they announced in a Sept. 25 ceremony here.
