Sothern Myths

Well now boys and girls I'd like to say only one of the southern myths turned out to be true. From all the tv show like Dukes of Hazzard and Movies like smokie and the bandit I figured you'll alittle backwards and inbred maybe, but I found quite the oppisite smart people well groomed lawns and well kept houses even the trailers looked in good repair except for Darrall it was hard to tell where the beer cans ended and the trailer started. all the towns we stopped in took great pride in the rich historys of there towns, both blue and gray. why I even took a liking to grits go figure. and there is so much to do and see down there for damn near free, Davy birth place, Greeneville, Elisbethton, Johnson City, Why even Shirley's dad Arnolds 2 1/2 million dollar Mantion was worth seeing. I didn'nt see any snakes. not even in the churchs. and no swamps and no alligators. but what i did see the only thing that was not a myth was a plant called Kudzoo it were every where devioured whole hillsides trees and all. If that stuff was edible it could feed the whole galixey plus some outer space road houses too. I'm now looking forward to retirment and a long road trip through the south but I will insist on air conditioning cuz its hot down there. It just goes to show you never trust TV to show how places really are they distort the truth so much its hard to believe they are talking about the same place or thing....Chris

Chris: If you want to see some gators in a friendly environment come on down to the Okkeefeenokee Swamp here near Waycross,Georgia where ole' Bert Reynolds and Pernel Roberts played as kids. The Swamp was where Bert filmed parts of White Lightning when they did the big chase scene with the BATF chaseing him thru the swamp when you pull up into the parking lot of the Okkeefeenokee Swamp out of Waycross you shouldn't let your little dogs or cats run loose or one of the basking gators will get them a snack. Since retirement I've had six visits to the south (if you include Mo.)

Andy slow down friend I'm on your side. the media dosen't do justice to the South. All the people I met were outstanding folks warm and inviting except for the pissed off watriss at the waffle house but I figure if i had to work with Yankees all day asking what are GRITS i'd be pissed off too. no Andy what I'm saying is steriotyping is soooooooo wrong I will never believe the tv again I'll search the inter net to great lenght to find out what the truth is.
