Waterloo man reunites with Vietnam buddy
(EXCERPT) By JON ERICSON, Courier Staff Writer CEDAR FALLS --- Life sometimes gets in the way of the best intentions. That's the case for Richard Smith of Waterloo. The Vietnam veteran made good friends with Ray "Grud" Grudzinski during his tour there from the spring of 1968 to May 1969. Both men were Army GIs with young wives at home. They formed a bond through long nights guarding an airfield and swapping stories from home. Smith went home first, with Grud following a few months later. They promised to stay in touch and get together when Grud got back home to Michigan. They stayed in... U.S. and friendly nation laws prohibit fully reproducing copyrighted material.
