Post Big Bad Bugs

?BIG BAD BUGS?

As if mankind doesn?t have enough trouble with things like Hussein, bin Laden, the Taliban or the al-Qaeda, a piece on television last evening reminded us that ?Mother Nature? herself is not to be underestimated or forgotten!

Mankind, no matter how technologically advanced or how tough he perceives himself to be, is like a tiny sailboat adrift upon troubled waters. ?We are literally at the mercy of the time and tides of fate and fortune!?

War itself, is but mankind?s way of trying to emulate the gods, but he is no where near alone when it comes to his suicidal intent! Nature also provides it?s own challenges to man?s continuing existence upon ?Planet Earth? in the form of earthquakes (an accompanying tsunamis), hurricanes, tornadoes, flood etc., etc.

And let us never forget our susceptibility to those ?Big, Bad Bugs? (viruses, diseases and
bacteria) that love to draw a bead upon the human body and mind!! Just when the marvelous (?) men of medical science thought that they had all of the answers by virtue of ?Big Buck$ and Dedicated Lab Work?, along came a plethora of new (or nearly
forgotten) body destroying ailments to remind us that we are after-all, but human!

Of course, mankind did not always conduct his search for answers and knowledge in an ethical fashion. This is evident by the fact that he often utilized the unwitting and uninformed in diabolical testing and exhibitions of (often) dangerous (and even deadly) elements to further his bottomless ambitions! And no, the United States was not immuned from this ?Medi-Military Experimentation Madness? either, as is evident in documents like DAIG-IN 21-75 and Chief of Staff Memo 385!!

While mankind was busily attempting to wipe himself out in wars, he languished in the bogus belief that he was the sole ?Master of the Universe!?? But nature too, was busily adapting itself to our feeble attempts to overcome our environment! Deadly new diseases and perils, some the result of mankind?s own stupidity, began to rear their malignant little heads. West Nile Virus, Legionnaire?s Disease, Aids (and a growing number of other drug resistant plagues), as well as all of that space debris out there, is beginning to gnaw into that feeling of complacency that has permeated our minds and souls for so long, giving us new cause for justifiable terror!!

And as if this were not bad enough, our race still hasn?t figured out a way to conquer the armies of diseased vermin (rats, fleas, ticks, viruses and germs) that are steadily marching in our direction? Nor have we devised any lasting cures for the pandemic diseases of the mind, morality and soul that are still intent on devouring us for lunch! ?R.I.P.?

VERITAS
